Day 1: I've started my tinker cad for my laser cutter to cut, and this is how it's going today. I'm basically going to laser cut text into this rectangle for my project.
Day 2: I've made an idea switch to something more useful like a soap holder
Day 3: I've finished the imprint for a soap holder, and now it's time to add some design.
Day 5: I've skipped a day because I did a switch of design because I need to print this in a way for the Laser Cutter. As you can see there are 3 individual parts for the laser cutter that will be put together to make a soap holder in the end.
Day 6: After running into the problem before laser cutting, I and my teacher discovered that these 2 objects needed to be solids and not holes before we put them together. After I changed piece #3
Day #6 Laser cutter in progress of cutting my design before its finished.
Video of it in action:
Day 8: As you can see my laser cut design is finished from the previous week. It came to just how I wanted it and it will now serve as a soap holder.

Planning Questions
Are You Working By Yourself? Yes, I am working by myself on this laser cutter project.
What Materials Will You Need For Your Project? I need Tinker-Cad to make my laser cut design, and then I need a laser cutter and an iPad to take pictures of my design when finished.
What Is Your Plan To Create In This Project? My plan is to create something more useful than my last project, so I made a soap holder to hold bars of soap.
What unique qualities will your project have to separate it from other peoples’ projects? The unique qualities of my project are that I'm making something that I could really use in an everyday life of mine. Every single day I feel like I have nowhere to place my soap in my shower, but then after doing some thinking I finally decided to create a bar soap holder.
What Is My Project/Description Of Creation
My project is the laser cutter project, and what I'm making is a soap holder. Before I started this project I had an idea of making some cool logo from the laser cutter, but I slowly realized that I could make something very useful and helpful in my daily life, something much better from my first project. When I completely switched my design to a soap holder I felt like it was easier to work because rather than laser cutting something completely useless I could cut a super helpful. I'll be using tinker cad to make individual parts for my laser cut. Once all my individual parts are put together, I can start the laser cutting process to complete my soap holder design.
Sentence Starters
Using Tinker-Cad I created a soap holder because it's something I can use daily, and it's also something I've been wanting to create using the laser cutter. Why I created this object is still not known, but I think I just wanted something more useful than my first project I did.
During this process I learned that trying something new is way more fun than it seems when you get the hang of things. I started this project with absolutely no background knowledge on laser cutter machines or how do I make a design. I learned that it's not going to take you one day to learn how to know how to do a project which is ok. After trial and error I finally learned how to laser cut successfully.
The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to Empowered Learner because during this whole project I ran into problems and I took those problems on by solving them even if I was had no clue what I did wrong I will still try to tackle the problem before asking questions. Also, I've learned to know what to do when I have no clue what I'm supposed to do next, I asked a question and take advantage of the answers that come back. The last class standard that ties to my project is Knowledge Constructor is a big one because since I've used tinker-cad before I was much better at it and I was more familiar with what I was supposed to do. I was also constantly answering my own questions with the knowledge I've received from the previous project.
A challenge I overcame on this project was when doing this project and many of them were "how do I do this" questions I kept asking myself. The only challenge that stuck to me was the challenge I faced when creating my design. When I first started this project I wanted to create a fun logo, but I soon realized that's not what this class is about so I decided to create something more useful and valuable to me. When I knew what I wanted to make, I soon realized I faced yet another challenge, and that challenge was how do I send this tinker-cad design to my teacher. I was able to it by figuring out how to send my parts and pieces the right way to my teacher so he could put them together for the laser cutter.
Given a chance to do this again, I would change t is better dimensions like the depth of the soap holder itself. Also, something I would do differently is to spend more time focusing on what things I could use around the house. I could totally use the soap holder daily, but I know if I spent more time researching I could have found something I would really love to create, but in the end, it was a fun project to learn. The reason why I would change it is that it's not really my style and I would much rather make something I desire, but making a soap holder makes the project much easier.
Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, Marketing. My project connects to the Engineering Design CTE program at Hastings High School. My project connects to careers in CNC PLasma/Laser Cutter because they use such variest machines like laser cutters to make medical tools and they use their machines to benefit in the medical field. This career pays good money and requires experience with laser cutters and machines.
