For this project, I used Tinkercad to create a custom pencil holder because I needed something practical to organize my pencils. Throughout the process, I learned how to navigate Tinkercad’s tools and features, which helped me understand the basics of 3D design.
This project connects to the Innovative Designer standard because I created an original 3D model to solve a real problem. I used creativity, problem‑solving, and design thinking to bring my idea to life.
One challenge I faced was missing the original deadline. I overcame this by completing the project and turning it in afterward, which taught me the importance of time management and staying responsible for my work.
If I had the chance to redo this project, I would choose a different problem to solve. I have other needs in my daily life that could inspire new and more complex designs, and I would like to explore those ideas in the future.
This project also connects to the Computer Programming pathway in the Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program. Even though Tinkercad is a design tool, it uses logical thinking and digital creation skills similar to those used in programming.
Finally, my project relates to careers in 3D construction and design. Learning how to build objects digitally is a foundational skill for fields like architecture, engineering, and product design. Creating a simple pencil holder is a first step toward understanding how larger structures—like buildings—can be modeled in 3D.
I used Copilot to help me
