What materials will you need for your project?
cardboard, computer cardboard scissors, iPad
What is your plan to create in this project?
Minecraft amour set
What unique qualities will your project have?
lots of detail
Using cardboard, I created a full set of armor inspired by Minecraft because we wanted to recreate the look of the armor from the game. During this process, I learned how to measure, cut, and assemble cardboard into wearable pieces. I also developed problem-solving skills when figuring out how to shape the armor so it would fit properly. This project helped me understand how simple materials can be turned into something creative and functional. Overall, it was a hands-on experience that improved my building and design abilities.
My project connects to the Global Collaborator standard because I shared my entire building process publicly on my website. By doing this, others can view my work, learn from it, and possibly use my ideas for their own projects. Sharing my process allows me to communicate with a wider audience beyond my classroom. It also shows how collaboration can happen online, even without direct interaction. This helped me understand the importance of sharing knowledge and ideas with others.
One challenge I faced during this project was making sure all the armor pieces fit correctly for the video. Since cardboard can be difficult to adjust once glued, I had to carefully measure and test each piece before final assembly. I solved this problem by sizing everything beforehand and making small adjustments before using glue or tape. This extra step saved time and prevented mistakes later in the process. Overcoming this challenge helped me improve my planning and attention to detail.
If I were given the chance to do this project again, I would change the colors and possibly redesign how the pieces connect. Adjusting the colors would make the armor look more unique and visually interesting. I would also improve the connection methods to make the armor more comfortable and durable. These changes would enhance both the appearance and functionality of the final product. Learning from my first attempt would help me create a better version next time.
My project connects to the Career and Technical Education programs at Hastings High School, especially in areas like Digital Multimedia and Engineering Design. Although it mentions Culinary Arts, this project more strongly reflects creativity, design, and construction skills. Building the armor required planning, designing, and hands-on construction, which are key aspects of several CTE programs. It shows how technical skills can be applied in creative ways. This experience could help prepare me for future classes or careers involving design and building.
My project connects to careers in art because I designed, built, and shared a creative product with others. Creating the armor required imagination, visual planning, and artistic decision-making. By posting my work online, I also practiced presenting and sharing art with a broader audience. This reflects how artists often showcase their work publicly. Overall, the project demonstrates skills that are useful in creative and artistic careers.
