Editing on our ipads
Using the green screen room, iPads, and mics, I created a podcast because I thought it would be interesting. During this process, I learned how to make a podcast, from scripting and recording to editing. I was able to experiment with different aspects of production and figure out how to make everything come together. The experience gave me a real understanding of the steps involved in creating audio and visual content, which I hadn't fully grasped before.
The 7 standards of the class are Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator. My project ties to creative communicator because we talked about college football and made arguments about things. The podcast allowed me to explore these standards in a practical setting—whether it was researching information (Knowledge Constructor), creatively designing the content (Innovative Designer), or working collaboratively with my classmates (Global Collaborator). Each standard gave me a framework to approach the project more thoughtfully.
A challenge I overcame on this project was remembering the script. At first, I struggled with keeping the script in my head while speaking naturally. However, I was able to overcome this challenge by reading the script a thousand times. This repetition helped me internalize the content and deliver it more confidently on camera. It taught me the value of practice and persistence, especially when trying to master a new skill.
Given a chance to do this again, I would change how long the episode was and would have made more episodes. The reason why I would change it is because I think it would be more interesting for the reader. A longer episode would give more room to dive deeper into college football rivalries, provide extra insights, and make the podcast feel fuller. More episodes would also allow me to experiment with different topics and styles, giving the audience a more varied experience.
Hastings High School Career and Technical Education Program offers a wide range of courses, such as Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Programming, Construction Trades, Culinary Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering Design, Finance, Insurance, and Marketing. My project connects to the Digital Multimedia CTE program at Hastings High School. By creating a podcast, I got to put the digital skills I’ve been learning into practice, such as working with audio and video equipment, as well as editing content. It also gave me a sense of how the skills I’m learning could be applied in real-world careers.
My project connects to careers in media and entertainment because we were talking in front of a camera and reading a script. This is a common setup in media-related jobs, whether you're working as a broadcaster, podcaster, or content creator. The experience of crafting a script, speaking clearly, and presenting in front of a camera gave me a taste of what it’s like to work in the media and entertainment industry. It helped me see how skills in communication, creativity, and technology come together in these careers.
