The Texas Success Initiative Assessment, better known as the TSI test, is a program which determines the appropriate level of college course work for an incoming student. The TSI test consists of three separate exams: Mathematics, Reading, and Writing. The TSI is a PLACEMENT test, NOT an entrance exam!

Reading Test: 351 Math Test: 350
Writing Test: Essay = 5 OR Essay = 4 and 340+ on rest of test
You must pass the reading and writing TSI tests in order to take Dual Credit English classes next school year!

- Every student taking any section of the TSI must participate in a Pre-Assessment Activity (PAA).
- This has to be done at least 24 hours BEFORE you take the TSI test!

TSI Waiver VS. TSI Exemption:
TSI Waiver = TSI waived until successfully completing a college course with a "C" or better in these areas. (Waivers only apply to high school students taking dual credit or early admissions courses.)
TSI Exemption = TSI complete in these areas
- PSAT (TSI waiver) - 500 reading, 500 math, combined 1070
- STAAR EOC (TSI waiver) - English 2 scale score of 4000 for TSI reading and writing; Algebra 1 EOC scale score of 4000 + "C" or better in high school Algebra 2 for TSI math
- ACT (TSI exemption) - 19 English /composite of 23 for TSI Writing; 19 math/composite of 23 for TSI math
- SAT (TSI exemption) - 480 English for TSI Writing; 530 math for TSI math
