Get a Band Instrument
If you already own the instrument - Please bring it in for Mrs. Freeman to check out. I will provide my recommendations on ensuring the instrument is in good playing condition for the student. Nothing is worse for a starting musician than an instrument that they have to fight to make work. If it hasn't been played in a few years, we highly recommend you taking it in to a local music store to get checked out by a repair professional. They will put it into a playable condition for you. Our district uses Menchey Music for our instrument fixing needs.
If you do not already own the instrument - We highly recommend getting a rental instrument through Menchey Music. We have found that they have the best blend of quality, value, and customer service. They also send a representative to our school every week to take care of their instruments. We ask that you not buy instruments from Amazon, eBay, or other retailers. These instruments are of very poor quality, and nothing hurts a beginning musician more than an instrument of poor quality. They will be fighting it every step of the way instead of having the instrument work with them. If you have a question about an instrument you want to buy, please email me at carfre@hasdhawks.org so I can check out the instrument before you purchase.
If you can't afford to buy or rent an instrument - The school does have a limited number of instruments that we own and loan out to students free of charge. We hand out our instruments on a first-come, first-served basis to students financially in need. Please contact me with any questions regarding school instruments.
