Definitions of Terms:
Exposition: The exposition is at the start of the book and gives you the important details you need about the characters, who they are, where they live, when they live, and what their lives are like before the major events of the story happen.
Initial Incident: The initial incident is the first major event in the book that changes the normal situations or flow of life for the main characters. This sets up the “problem” in the story.
Rising Action: Rising action is a longer phase of the story that includes several events that result from the initial incident and make the plot more exciting or interesting.
Climax: The most exciting or suspenseful part of the story. It is represents a big moment of change for the many characters.
Falling Action: The events that come out of the climax. Leading towards the resolution.
Resolution: The problem is solved and we see how the main character has changed.
Denouement: Any remaining questions or problems are answered.
