How do individuals work together to bring about change?
How do the times we live in affect how what we do?
What is loyalty?
My Brother Sam is Dead tells the story of Tim, a young man during the time of the American Revolution as he tries to understand the actions of his brother Sam. Sam is an American Patriot while Tim and the rest of his family are Tories (loyal to England). Tim still looks up to his brother despite their disagreements and the stress Sam's beliefs cause for their family and their lives.
By exploring fictional characters in a real world event we are able to strengthen our abilities to analyze a work of literature and track them through important historical events. My Brother Sam is Dead offers the opportunity to see how personal beliefs, relationships, and actions are affected by the world around us.
