Dear YHT Families,
Welcome to the YHT Summer Scholars page.
Due to overwhelming feedback from our parent survey we will be offering optional Zoom courses this summer for YHT students entering kindergarten through 6th grade. Parents can select one or multiple courses. Courses will be held on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays (except for Tisha B'Av, when there will be class on Friday instead of Thursday) for 8 weeks beginning July 7. Classes will be in the mornings, per the feedback we received. As we are offering these courses as a service to YHT parents they will be priced as close to cost as possible.
Looking forward to a great summer together!
Mr. Brandon Melendez, YHT Summer Course Director
We'll fill courses on a first-come-first-serve basis and will only run a course if it has at least 8 students enrolled. We're capping courses at 14 students to make sure this is as enriching as possible for students. If a class doesn't run, payment will be reversed back to your credit card. We'll notify you by July 3, but hopefully sooner, whether your child is enrolled in a course.
Registration is for 8 weeks of courses, running Tuesday-Thursday of each week (except for the week of Tisha B'Av -- Thursday, July 30 -- when there will be courses on Monday, Tuesday, and Friday instead). Courses begin Tuesday, July 7.
Nursery Skill Review / Morah Chelsea Daniel / 8:40-9:20AM
In this course, we will review all of the skills that we learned in nursery to make sure we're ready for kindergarten. We will start each day with some tefilla before jumping into a review of letters, letter sound, lowercase letters, numbers 1-20, and addition and subtraction. We will also spend time discussing our feelings and socializing with one another. Please note that this class will be capped at 10 students.
Reading & Writing - Interactive Read-Alouds / Mrs. Meredith Rossi / 9:25-10:05AM
In this course, you'll be learning and reviewing comprehension strategies while enjoying some of your favorite stories being read aloud. Get a chance to become an author yourself while practicing some important writing strategies!
Math - Math Summer Scholars / Ms. Racheli Spingarn / 10:10-10:50AM
Looking to add some learning to your summer? Without subtracting the fun? Then we can’t wait for you to attend our 1st and 2nd grade Summer Scholar Math group! It’s the place where we value your learning and want to help you become number one. Our group will focus on interactive activities to preview and strengthen key components of the 1st and 2nd grade math curriculum. Topics may include addition, subtraction, beginning multiplication, division, time, and money. Using many hands-on materials from your very own home and plenty of games and activities, we will work on expanding your number sense so that you can learn math with confidence.
Math - Problem Solving with Mrs. Rosenfeld / Mrs. Jillian Rosenfeld / 9:25-10:05AM
Building math skills in an exciting, interactive, and hands-on way is an opportunity your kids won't want to miss. This course will offer a fun and relaxed environment for students to step out of the box of typical math learning and jump into a new and exciting way of understanding math concepts and problem-solving. Students will have the opportunity to exercise key skills such as communication, creativity, and critical thinking while they tackle fun and creative math problems.
