Book review by Kourtney Huang: Odder by Katherine Applegate
Genre: Animal Fiction? Verse novel
Suitable for: Y4-5
Odder the otter gets bitten and injured by a shark, before being rescued by humans. Highwater - a lot of otters getting injured and not many left. Inspired by true story. Favourite part: the blurb. Kourtney enjoys verse novels because of the way the page is set and because she likes exploring new things.
Book review by Scarlett Law: The Complete Baking Book for Young Chefs by America's Test Kitchen
Genre: Nonfiction - cooking
Suitable for: Y4-5
This book contains great recipes with clear instructions that do not require an adult to supervise. The book has lots of photos of the baked goods, which are divided into breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks. My favourite recipes are the Yellow Cupcakes with Strawberry Frosting, the Chewy Peanut Butter Cookies and Chocolate Crinkle Cookies. Loves cupcakes. Lots of practical tips for young chefs about equipment, weighing and measuring, safety precautions in the kitchen.

Book review by Hannah Fong: My Mum Trace Beaker by Jacqueline Wilson
Genre: Realistic Fiction
Suitable for: Y4-5
linked to the original Tracy Beaker series, but main character is Tracy Beaker's daughter. Jess is very different from her mum, quieter and more anxious than Tracy. Still enjoys the character. Tracy finds a boyfriend - famous footballer. Jess finds it hard to be friendly with mum's new partner. Happy ending. A quiet reader would enjoy this book because they will see themselves in Jess.

Book review by Leanna Liu: Camp by Kayla Miller
Genre: Graphic Novels, Realistic Fiction
Suitable for: Y4-5
The book I read is called Camp. It is a story about friendships and caring for others. The story starts with two girls: one named Olive and the other named Willow. This book was written by Kayla Miller, and it is actually Willow's diary. It is suitable for children in Years 4 to 6.
I think it is a good book because it connects to Girls on Board, as both sets of girls experience a conflict and become upset with each other. However, in the end, they reconcile and become friends again. 🥰🥰🥰
Book review by Leanna Liu: Gangsta Granny and The Blunders by David Walliams, and... all the other David Walliams books!
Genre: Humour
Suitable for: Y3-5
I really enjoyed Gangsta Granny because of how Ben's granny pretended that she was a gangster. Ben's mum and dad love ballroom dancing and Ben pretends he does too, when in fact, this was just an excuse to go to his granny's house. I can't wait to borrow book 2 of Gagsta Granny!
The Blunders by David Williams is also very exciting and you always want to know what will happen next. Every time I borrow a book from the library I will always go to the David Williams shelf first. Even though I only read 3 books of his, including Demon Dentist, I am hoping to explore more. David Walliams' books are fun, easy to read, and perfect for relaxing.
I am so excited to borrow another book from David Williams next week! 🤩🤩🤩
