Student Planners:
We will be using Student Planners to help us organize our assignments and upcoming events. Please make sure to sign or initial the book each night, and I will stamp it each day!
The Student Planners are great tools to help teach responsibility. Every morning as part of our Morning Message each student writes the homework for that night into their Planner. Before we begin our lesson for the day, I walk around and check everyone's Planner (to make sure that they were signed the night before) and I also make sure that all the new homework assignments are written in for the night.
I encourage you to review your child's homework with them every night. This is an ideal time for your child to communicate and discuss with you how he/she is growing as a learner. The Student Planner is also the best place to find out what is going on in the classroom and what your child needs for school. If you have any questions or concerns, please attach a note to your child's Student Planner and I will get back to you!
Every night your child should be doing the following:
*Reading a self-selected book for 20 minutes
*Practicing math facts (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division)
Study Secrets that Help at Home:
*Each day after school, unload your backpack and binder.
*Talk to your family about what you did at school.
*Look at your Student Planner for your assignments.
*Choose a time to study.
*Find a special, quiet study place at home. No TV or radio. Have a pencil, eraser, and books ready. Always do your homework in your study place.
*Do all your homework.
*Practice things you learned at school each night, like some math facts, spelling words, social studies and science facts, for ten to fifteen minutes.
*Load your backpack for the next day before you go to bed.
*Practice following directions from adults right away.
*Practice doing things for yourself instead of asking your parents to do things. (BE SURE YOU ARE ALLOWED FIRST!)
