Summer STEM opportunities are only available to HCPS Governor’s Academy students. Summer STEM is an opportunity build relationships with peers, teachers, and STEM professionals. Summer STEM offers adventures, challenges, and collaboration that are some of students' most cherished memories of being in the Academy!
Priority is given to current 9th-11th graders. Seniors can attend if space becomes available.

Fueling Inspiration, Research and Experience

4 seperate day hikes: Come join us for one or more of these 1 day hikes to waterfalls around Virginia. Wildlife viewing and photography will be a essential part of the experience. We will also learn from park rangers and experts about the life around us.
(Maximum of 13 participants for each hike)

June 23-26th 9-11:30
Nanopore Sequencing: Students will complete either a barcoding or metabarcoding project in which they will collect samples and sequence the DNA using Nanopore Sequencing. Students will have the opportunity to learn techniques in biotechnology, microbiology and bioinformatics. Research will occur at HHS in the mornings only. No lodging or food will be provided. Transportation to HHS is the responsibility of the student.
