Summer STEM opportunities are only available to HCPSGovernor’s Academy students. Summer STEM is an opportunity build relationships with peers, teachers, and STEM professionals. Summer STEM offers adventures, challenges, and collaboration that are some of students' most cherished memories of being in the Academy!
Priority is given to current 9th-11th graders. Seniors can attend if space becomes available.

Fueling Inspiration, Research and Experience
Students will have the opportunity to isolate a previously unknown bacteriophage virus from the soil and grow it in the lab. The entire genome of their virus may later be completely sequenced by a sequencing center. The soil sample will be collected by the student. Basic techniques in microbiology and bioinformatics may also be covered. Research will occur at JMU in the mornings only. No lodging or food will be provided. Transportation to JMU is the responsibility of the student.
