Day in the Life.MOVSummer STEM opportunities are only available to HCPS Governor’s Academy students. Summer STEM is an opportunity build relationships with peers, teachers, and STEM professionals. Summer STEM offers adventures, challenges, and collaboration that are some of students' most cherished memories of being in the Academy!
Priority is given to current 9th-11th graders. Seniors can attend if space becomes available.

Fueling Inspiration, Research and Excitement
Seneca Rocks, WV June 14-18th
Join the STEM Academy Staff and Students at Seneca Rocks, WV for this highly anticipated event! Research will focus on three areas.
In addition to science, be ready for adventure, bonfires, star gazing, jumping into cold water, and connecting with Mother Nature!

4 seperate day hikes: Come join us for one or more of these 1 day hikes to waterfalls around Virginia. Wildlife viewing and photography will be a essential part of the experience. We will also learn from park rangers and experts about the life around us.

Nanopore Sequencing
June 23-26
9-11:30 am
HHS
Students will complete either a barcoding or metabarcoding project in which they will collect samples and sequence the DNA using Nanopore Sequencing. Students will have the opportunity to learn techniques in biotechnology, microbiology and bioinformatics. Research will occur at HHS in the mornings only. No lodging or food will be provided. Transportation to HHS is the responsibility of the student.
