FAFSA stands for Free Application for Federal Student Aid. This application determines how much finanical aid you are qualified to receive. Finanical aid could include federal grants, loans, and work-study. Colleges use this information to determine how much aid you are eligible to receive through them. In Missouri, you must fill out the FAFSA to receive the Access Missouri grant and the A+ scholarship.
Note: It is important to fill out the FAFSA every year you attend college. Even if you graduate/drop out of college and go back. It is beneficial to fill out this form every year you attend college.
Create an FSA account
If you have never filled out a FAFSA before you must first create your FSA ID account. The student and the parent both must create their own separate accounts. This will be the account you will log into every year you fill out the FAFSA. This account is paired with your social security number so you will only need to create this account once in your lifetime. If you have been to college, have filled out the FAFSA previously, or have done this with another child previously, you already have an account. So parents, if you went to college you already have an account. You might just have to change your password if you have forgotten it.
