This is your HOSA advisor portal where you will register your HOSA members for conferences and online testing, and add your testing proctors.
You will need to track the community service hours for each scholar using the HOSA activity tracking system. Once the hours have been inputted through the HOSA Activity Tracking System, you can log in to your HOSA app, click on memberships, and review activity. This is where you can see the total hours each scholar has for the Barbara James Award.
In this Google Site, you will find many resources that may be useful for HOSA Chapter advisors and members. I added information regarding competitive events, study resources, in-class trainings, activities, scholar opportunities, and more. Most titles are hyperlinked in case you need more information. Please feel free to email me @ memartinez@harmonytx.org with questions or additional resources that can be added to this site.
HOSA's interest meeting will take place on Monday, August 30th @ 4:00-5:00 PM in room 225. The meeting is mandatory for past and prospective members. Students who don't attend this meeting will NOT be accepted as a HOSA member. Come to our interest meeting to learn more about HOSA and membership requirements!
The information above is an example post to prepare for the first HOSA meeting. Feel free to make a copy of the HOSA Interest Form.
HOSA Membership Fees/Affiliation
HOSA is aligned with PLTW and therefore membership fees can be PAID using CTE funds. You do not need to fundraise to pay for this. The school will pay for them. Simply register the students on the online HOSA portal and send the HOSA-created Invoice to your Operations Manager. Here is a sample email template.
Good morning ___________,
I hope you are doing well. I would like to request a PO for the HOSA (CTE) membership fees. I have attached the Invoice.
Attach HOSA Invoice (example below- this is created once you register your scholars)

You can create a class on Schoology and keep track of their participation. Here is a Tracking Sheet for scholars to keep track of their points.
HOSA members are encouraged to take full advantage of the HOSA National Competitive Events Program, a constantly expanding and improving series of healthcare-related competitive events. Competition within a state is held in the spring as a means of identifying those members eligible for competition at the HOSA National Leadership Conference. Imagine the pride that members feel when their names are called and they stand on stage waiting to receive a National HOSA Medallion for recognition as a first, second, or third place event winner.
HOSA Offers 56 Competitive Events that are aligned to the National Healthcare Foundation and Accountability Criteria outlined by the National Consortium for Health Science Education. Please use the link below to access the Competitive Events Resource page.
Here is the Google Folder with more resources for each event (in progress-still adding information)
You will need to register your students and pay the testing fees before they can test online for this school year 2023-2024. The same process and membership affiliation proceed (please read above).
Here you will purchase all your HOSA Essentials. Be sure to check with your operations manager and have this added as a vendor. Then simply request a PO and you are all set. Purchase your patches, membership cards, graduation stoles, and more.
PBL Integration for HOSA Research Poster
Research Poster provides HOSA members with the opportunity to think critically about a health-related issue in their community; pose a research question surrounding the chosen topic; and conduct research on that topic. All competitors will develop a Research Poster showcasing their findings. Postsecondary / Collegiate members have an added presentation in which they must present their research to a panel of judges.
Applied Educational Systems is an online integrated learning resource for CTE Health Science and Allied Health programs that are modular and customizable to meet the curriculum needs of any school or district. This is a great resource that perfectly aligns with HOSA Competitive Events.
There will be no need to purchase individual textbooks for each competitive event. Most resources are available online on E-Books and Quizlets found in our google folder. If you wish to purchase textbooks individually, here is a masterlist.
If you are interested in the online modules, your campus would need to add as a vendor, request PO, and purchase program. Then, simply create your class, add your modules, add your scholars and you are DONE. Scholars can independently study, work on modules, quizzes and assessments to prepare for their event. (Below is a snapshot of some modules that are available).

2023-2024 Happy Hands Challenge
The Happy Hands Contest was developed as an opportunity to educate students on the importance of hand washing while also allowing them to create an original design for an SC Johnson Professional hand soap dispenser.
Let's learn about Vital Signs
Scholars worked on a cut-and-paste matching activity to identify the proper tool and range for each vital sign (Heart Rate, Respiration Rate, Oxygen Saturation, Glucose level, Pupillary Dilation). Scholars also had an opportunity to practice the hands-on skills with their partners and color the pain scale used by pediatricians.
ABO Blood Typing
Scholars analyzed different blood samples and identified the blood types using the agglutination properties of blood.
Future Doctors Academy Course Certificate
There are a lot of requirements needed for successfully applying to medical schools – like good academic grades, good MCAT scores, etc. Adding the Future Doctors Academy Course Certificate to your resume will add value (60 credit hours of extracurricular activities). Scholars will perform over 50 fun Practical Projects at home and gain dozens of medical skills!
If you are interested in Future Doctors Academy, just have your students create an account. Some courses are free such as Foundation Medical Course which counts as 50 shadowing hours. There are other courses that the school would need to purchase, add as a vendor, and request a PO all depending on the courses you are interested in.
In 2003, the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation founded the President’s Volunteer Service Award to recognize the important role of volunteers in America’s strength and national identity. This award honors individuals whose service positively impacts communities in every corner of the nation and inspires those around them to take action, too.
If you are interested in providing this opportunity to your HOSA Scholars, you will need to complete an online application, take an online quiz and certify your school first. This is a great opportunity since HOSA Scholars are already working towards getting many community hours. For more information click on the title.

Doctor's Hospital Build a Bear Donation
Our first event happened on October 12, 2018 where we had the amazing opportunity to donate stuffed animals to the Pediatric Department for kids in need. The man who conducted this event welcomed us with open arms. Being a freshman at the time, I could describe this experience as a new awakening of other's perspectives and getting out there into the real world. This event is by far one of the many moments where it felt so heart felting for me. (Quoted from HOSA former member)
FMSC offers volunteers a one-of-a-kind experience. You’ll hand-pack rice, soy, dried vegetables, and a nutritionally complete blend of vitamins and minerals into bags which are then sealed, boxed, placed on pallets, and shipped to our incredible partners working hard to reach the neediest children around the world.
HOSA State Conference
Conference took place locally at LBJ campus. It was our first time going, and it was so much fun. We followed the professional HOSA attire. The first thing that happened at the campus was a little introduction of what the conference consists of: a mixture of speakers, social activities, and getting to know one another. My favorite part of this event was meeting new people and doing all of the activities. (Quoted from HOSA former member).
Welcome to HIPAA training brought to you by Compliancy Group. We have created a series of videos that will educate employees on everything they need to know about HIPAA
Employee training provides guidance on the permitted uses and disclosure of protected health information, how to protect that information, and what to do if a breach occurs. The training shouldn’t take too long
But be sure to pay close attention because there will be a quiz at the very end.
HIPAA compliance training provides employees with a HIPAA introduction including how to recognize protected health information (PHI), proper uses and disclosures of PHI, how to keep PHI secure, and how to report a breach of PHI
"We learned about one of the most important organizations in the medical field. When working in the medical field, every staff member has to follow the HIPPA guidelines and privacy rules to ensure patient's information is protected". (Quoted from HOSA former member).
"While in HOSA, we do many fun activities that promote helpful skills that were future health professionals, will need later on in life. One of these awesome activates was Mystery Diagnosis. I had to create a patient scenario where my fellow peers had to try and guess the patient's condition/diagnosis". (Quoted from HOSA former member)
A collection of interactive medical and surgical clinical case scenarios to put your diagnostic and management skills to the test. Each clinical case scenario allows you to work through history taking, investigations, diagnosis, and management.
Hands on Live Lessons Grand Canyon University
Suture Clinic Activity is just one of the many live sessions available for scholars. The University will send all items that you will need during the live session. Then, you will simply connect through a link and have fun :)
UT Health Science Center SA Leadership and Scholar Insights
Leadership and Scholar insights were interactive sessions will focus on skills and character traits which are important to develop when seeking a biomedical profession. The Scholar insight sessions were informational sessions where current Voelcker Biomedical Academy Scholars provide a presentation regarding the research in their respective mentor’s labs and share insights with their peers about research endeavors while in high school. This is great opportunity for interested students to hear about how to successfully pursue research endeavors, especially if they are considering a career in health career themselves. These are not Academy information or recruiting sessions, but rather conversations about some of the research happening at UTHSA.
Sim rated provides expert modeling, hands-on simulations, clinician feedback, and knowledge badge certifications. This can be a great addition to the HOSA afterschool program as well as for any CTE biomedical scholar who is interested. This program is used by many medical schools and scholars can take their badges with them as they continue their education.
If approved by your campus principal, you can request a PO and use CTE funds to purchase the licenses.
BUT,
"Most importantly, I learned that the medical field isn't easy, if you really want it, you work for it. Not everything is going to be handed to us. We have to be independent. The video provided really helped me WANT to be independent". (Quoted from HOSA former member)
