As a general rule, students will need to achieve grade 4 or above in at least 5 subjects (including both English and Maths) in order to study Level 3 courses. However, individual entry criteria applies for each subject.
LEVEL 2
As a general rule, students will need to achieve grade 3 or above in at least 4 subjects to be able to study Level 2 courses. They cant have studied the same Level 2 course previously.
RETAKES
Harlington School only offers GCSE retakes in English Language and Mathematics. In order to study for a GCSE retake students must be studying a Level 2 course as their main programme. We are unable to offer GCSE retakes as stand alone programmes of study. It is compulsory for students to continue to study English and/or Mathematics if they fail to achieve at least grade 4 in Year 11. Students must continue to study English and/or Mathematics into Year 13 if they fail to achieve grade 4 in Year 12.
GENERAL
We feel our entry criteria is generally in line with most other schools. In some areas our entry criteria is more stringent and in some areas it may be slightly more lenient. Our entry criteria is reflective of subject variation and takes into account the performance of different ability students in previous cohorts at Harlington School.
