Here is an overview of the process for completing your GaFutures funding application. This is what pays for your dual enrollment classes, so fill out out carefully.
These steps are based on last year's application. It is possible some steps have been updated this year, but it should be basically the same.
1. Go to GAfutures.org
Create a Student account.
Make sure your profile contains your correct full legal name, date of birth, address, personal email, Social Security number (if applicable), and high school (Haralson County Comprehensive High School). Don't use nicknames.
IMPORTANT: DO NOT USE YOUR SCHOOL EMAIL ADDRESS. Use a personal email account.
BE CAREFUL TO GET THIS RIGHT.
2. Select the Dual Enrollment Funding Application.
You can access it through the Dual Enrollment section of GAfutures.
Choose the application for the academic year in which you will take your Dual Enrollment classes.
Review the information that GAfutures automatically fills in from your student profile and complete the requested information.
3. Select the college or technical college you plan to attend for Dual Enrollment.
This is important. If you want to go to UWG, list that college. If you want WGTC, list that college. If you think you might change at a later date, list BOTH.
4. Enter your parent/guardian's email address.
Your parent or guardian must electronically complete the Parent/Guardian Participation Agreement before the application process can be completed.
5. Read the student participation information, complete the required acknowledgements, and submit the application.
6. After submitting, you will receive a Dual Enrollment Application ID.
Save this number and give it to your parent/guardian. Your parent may need your Application ID and date of birth to complete the electronic agreement.
7. Your parent/guardian should check their email and follow the link sent by GAfutures to electronically complete the Parent/Guardian Participation Agreement.
NOTE: progress often gets interrupted at this stage becuase parents don't do this. Make sure it gets done.
Sometimes the email from GaFutures goes to "spam" folders, so check there if you don't see it.
8. When this is complete, your account should show "High School Profile Pending."
If it shows "Parent Participation Pending," your parents have not replied to the GaFutures email yet.
Students can later check the application by signing in and going to My GAfutures → My Dual Enrollment Profile. If they need to add another college after submitting the application, GAfutures currently directs them to My GAfutures → My Dual Enrollment Profile → Apply Now → Add College(s).
