Getting Started with Dual Enrollment
If you are just getting started with the dual enrollment program, or you have taken a couple semesters off and are restarting, this is the page you are looking for. The steps outlined below need to be completed before students are allowed to register for classes.
There is a lot of information here. Read carefully.
STEP ONE: Complete the correct funding app for your type of classes.
If you are focusing on academic classes, complete the application here: GaFutures.org. Directions for this are located in the attached document to the right. NOTE: They updated the site this year, so one or two specifics on this list may not be exact.
If you are focusing on Accelerated Pathway / Career Tech classes, complete the application here: GSFAPP
STEP TWO: Apply to the college where you will be taking dual enrollment classes. For the vast majority of our students, you will apply to West Georgia Technical College. Begin by clicking HERE.
To apply for dual enrollment through the University of West Georgia, click HERE instead. Be aware that UWG has different entry requirements and they do not offer classes here on the HCHS campus.
For information about Georgia Highlands University, click HERE.
Here's roughly how it should go:
You submit your application, then keep an eye out for communications from the college.
The college will ask you for your transcript (and possibly test scores)
You tell Coach Clayton you've reached this point and he'll send your transcript.
You monitor mail, email, etc. and look out for your acceptance notification.
You go on to step three.
STEP THREE: When you receive your acceptance letter and/or email notification that you have been accepted to the college, either forward a copy of it to Coach Clayton via email or take it and show it to him in the AV Lab at school. You will not be allowed to register without doing this.
We'll make sure you've signed the Code of Conduct and check your GaFutures status.
Then you're ready to start registering for classes.
STEP FOUR: Once you've registered, keep up with all communications from the college and your dual enrollment coordinator at the high school. CHECK CLASSROOM & YOUR EMAIL REGULARLY.
GO TO ORIENTATION. The college will send you information about orientation. Failure to attend will mean that you miss out on basic things you need to know about. If you don't go and you don't know something important, that is on you. You're a college student now.
STEP FIVE: Make sure you can log in to your college email, Bannerweb, and Blackboard. This is on you. The high school can't help you with this. Do this well before classes start. You will log in to all of this from the dashboard, HERE
Check Bannerweb for your college schedule. ONLY YOUR BANNERWEB schedule is official. Infinite Campus might show that you have a college class, but Infinite Campus is not official.
Keep an eye on Blackboard. All college classes will start there.
Check all email regularly, personal and college. If you don't and you miss something, that is on you.
