Most people don't immediately consider that our 11th grade Honors students need to be ready for college by the end of the semester... but they do.
For many of our 11th Honors students, their senior year will be spent in Advanced Placement or Dual Enrollment (aka Move On When Ready) courses.
These are college or college-equivalent classes. If a student expects to feel prepared for these classes in his or her senior year, 11th grade Honors teachers have a responsibility to bridge the gap from 10th grade to college. If you're thinking that sounds like cramming two years of high school English into a single semester, you're right. That's exactly what it is.
The planned reading list for the course includes a wide variety of texts from all around the world:
(This is not meant to be a complete list.)
Writing assignments will focus on deep, thoughtful analysis, presenting carefully chosen textual evidence as part of strong argumentative writings.
We will be completing short analytical paragraphs and essays as well as at least one research project.
