The United States of America

Despite being a young country, the United States of America is probably the most well-known nation in the world. Since the early 20th century, the US has played an influential role in global politics and events, and by the end of WWII in 1945, the US had emerged, and remains today, the most powerful and influential nation on Earth.

The US also stands as one of the most unique nations in the world. It was the world's first successful democratic republic. The first country to win independence from a European Empire. It has also been remarkably politically stable in its short history suffering only one crisis that nearly broke it apart. The US is a nation of immigrants as well. It's vast tracts of land, economic opportunity, and free and open society have drawn people from all over the world to its shores since the 18th century.
