- Advocate: School counselors advocate for students and their families so they may access the academic and community resources needed to reach their highest potential.
- Collaborator: Professional school counselors recognize that each student possesses unique interests, abilities and goals that will lead to many future opportunities. Collaborating with students, families, educational staff and the community, school counselors work to ensure all students develop an academic and career plan reflecting their interests, abilities and goals which include relevant coursework and experiences appropriate for the student.
- Agent of Systemic Change: School counselors act as change agents to improve the learning climate of the school, the educational performance of students, and serve as links with the various stakeholders.
