4th Grade with Mrs. Bos
Week 37
Welcome to WARRIOR WEEK! This is going to be a super fun week of dress up days, games, and our traditional 'Warrior Day' field day on Friday! I can't wait to dress up with the students and have fun showing our school spirit.
Your students had a great time filling my Penny Wars jar this week, let's keep that momentum going and see if we can win! Go 4th grade!
Famous Californian Wax Museum Project:
Our project is finally wrapping up! Final Drafts were due May 16th, Boards due May 19th, and we will present at the Elementary Pavilion on May 21st. Parents are encouraged to join us! Please have your child bring their costume/outfit on Wednesday in a bag. They will change at lunch so that we can start presentations at 12:30. I am very proud of their hard work on this!
End of the Year fun:
This Thursday, May 22nd, we will be hosting a '4th Grade Yard Sale/Market'. Students have used a classroom economy all year, and this is a chance for them to try their hand at entrepreneurship! This is NOT mandatory! However, if your child chooses to participate, they may bring items to 'sell' to their classmates, to be purchased with Class Money. Items that would be appropriate would be baked goods, stickers, small toys/party favors, or bagged snacks. Previous classes have had a blast with this, and I look forward to hosting another market this year! Please let me know if you have any questions!
Blue and White day is Friday! If you are not sure what team your child is on, please let me know. It will be the same team they were on last year, and siblings are on the same team.
What's going on in the classroom:
In Reading, we have finished our class novel studies! Now, students will be working on a Silent Reading journal in class using a book of their choice. The last entry to these journals is due Friday, and I would like their books to be finished by Wednesday. In Math, we finishing up Unit 8, which has a geometry focus. Keep an eye out for study guide this week, students will have their last Math test on Thursday. For Social Studies this week, we will be focusing on our 'Famous Californian' projects. In Science, students will be learning about Earth's resources and plant systems. In Bible, we will be studying Isaiah to finish the year.
*Wear tennis shoes on Monday and Friday for PE
*Bring binders to and from school each day
*May 19th-23rd, Warrior Week!!
*May 21st, Famous Californian presentations at the Elementary Pavilion at 12:30
*May 21st, 1:30 PM Release
This week, please have students show you their binder and planner each day! This will help them get into the habit of checking it themselves daily throughout the year.
This is our last spelling/Roots unit of the year!! Here is a link to the Quizlet that your students can use to study definitions.
This year, we are really focusing on making sure that students know their math facts well, so we will be taking a timed test each day in class. Each day will focus on a different operation. Each quarter, the kids have a goal of how many facts they should be able to complete in 1 minute. For quarter 4, that goal is 35 problems in a minute, in addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Students who feel they could improve their score may also retest these days to improve their grade. After a student retests, their grade will be updated in FACTS.
If you notice a low grade in one of their time tests, please practice with your child at home! If requested, I can send home extra tests and you can time them. We also made flash cards in class. Multiplication.com is also a great resource that has timed tests in addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division that are easy to practice with. Please let me know if you have any questions about this grading system.
No more spelling for 4th grade!

Command and teach these things. Do not let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, and in purity.
