4th Grade with Mrs. Bos
Week 36
What a fun filled and BUSY week we had last week! I was blown away at how our athletes performed at the track meet! They not only were great ambassadors of our school, but they brought their A game to all of their events. Way to go, Warriors! Our trip to SugarPine was so fun, and we had a wonderful time out in God's creation. AND, we had our second spirit stick win of the year! Woo hoo, way to go 4th grade! I hope you all had a chance to enjoy the Spring Festival on Friday! We are all so blessed to be here at Hanford Christian, I couldn't be more thankful for this community of believers.
Famous Californian Wax Museum Project:
Each student picked a famous Californian to study the week before we left for Spring Break. Rough Draft reports were due last Friday, and we will be working on the Final Drafts this week. We will also begin assembling their poster boards. Please have your student print pictures for their board and send them in by TUESDAY of this week. Feel free to send in sticker letters or any other craft supplies your student would like to use on their board. Final Drafts will be due May 16th, Boards due May 19th, and we will present in the gym on May 21st. Parents are encouraged to join us!
*Students need to bring in a TriFold board if they have not done so already. Please do not purchase the large boards that have the additional header top piece, as these boards need to fit on tables for our presentation day and we need to make sure all can be displayed.
*Students also need to be working on what they will be wearing to represent their chosen person.
End of the Year fun:
We have a few fun activities planned for these last weeks of school. This Friday, we will have a time to play board games in the afternoon. Students are welcome to bring games from home to play with the class.
Looking ahead, on Thursday, May 22nd, we will be hosting a '4th Grade Yard Sale/Market'. Students have used a classroom economy all year, and this is a chance for them to try their hand at entrepreneurship! This is NOT mandatory! However, if your child chooses to participate, they may bring items to 'sell' to their classmates, to be purchased with Class Money. Items that would be appropriate would be baked goods, stickers, small toys/party favors, or bagged snacks. Previous classes have had a blast with this, and I look forward to hosting another market this year! Please let me know if you have any questions!
What's going on in the classroom:
In Reading, we have finished our class novel studies! Now, students will be working on a Silent Reading journal in class using a book of their choice. We also will be finishing our second Book Clubs of the year. In Math, we finishing up Unit 8, which has a geometry focus. Keep an eye out for study guide next week, students will have their last Math test on Friday, May 23rd. For Social Studies this week, we will be focusing on our 'Famous Californian' projects. In Science, students will be learning about Earth's resources and plant systems. In Bible, we will be finishing our study on Israel's exile. Students will have a test on Wednesday, May 14th.
*Wear tennis shoes on Monday and Friday for PE
*Bring binders to and from school each day
*May 14, 1:30 PM Release
*May 19th-23rd, Warrior Week!!
*May 21st, Famous Californian presentations in the gym at 12:30
This week, please have students show you their binder and planner each day! This will help them get into the habit of checking it themselves daily throughout the year.
This is our last spelling/Roots unit of the year!! Here is a link to the Quizlet that your students can use to study definitions.
This year, we are really focusing on making sure that students know their math facts well, so we will be taking a timed test each day in class. Each day will focus on a different operation. Each quarter, the kids have a goal of how many facts they should be able to complete in 1 minute. For quarter 4, that goal is 35 problems in a minute, in addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Students who feel they could improve their score may also retest these days to improve their grade. After a student retests, their grade will be updated in FACTS.
If you notice a low grade in one of their time tests, please practice with your child at home! If requested, I can send home extra tests and you can time them. We also made flash cards in class. Multiplication.com is also a great resource that has timed tests in addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division that are easy to practice with. Please let me know if you have any questions about this grading system.

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
