Week 9
Monday, October 5th -
Friday, October 9th
Hello parents! I cannot believe we are already in October and the first quarter is almost over! The remainder of the month is going to be quite busy...get ready! Additionally, this is a rather lengthy update, please bear with me as I share some information and some things to keep in mind. Thank you for all you do!
Classroom Expectations:
As the first quarter draws to an end, the students and I have been discussing how we have been learning classroom expectations and what is expected of each of them through this first quarter. We have talked about grace and how I have extend grace, upon grace, upon grace within this first quarter as we have been learning what is expected of them as 1st Graders.
Now that we have had time to establish and familiarize ourselves with classroom expectations, I will be enforcing expectations more strictly. As a class we have been discussing that when I give instructions, I expect them to followed. When I ask for no talking, I mean no talking, and we have been learning what it means to activlely listen, showing that we are listening and allowing others around us to listen. I have placed an image below that is posted in our classroom next to our Classroom Rules that shows what Active Listening looks like if you would like to see it.
The class and I have been discussing what it means to be Ready to Learn. Ready to Learn means that students are doing what the should be doing through the day. When I see students Ready to Learn, we have more time as a class for learning. When I see students setting great leadering examples, I wil ask those students to clip up. I have been sharing with students that I am always looking for leaders (the first students who will set a great leadership examples!). I have shared with students that I notice every time I call a student who is exhbiting great leadership to clip up that many other students begin to follow that student's example and I am always looking for great leaders!
I am writing to you as we approach Quarter 2 to notify you that you may notice that your child may not be ending the day on colors you are used to seeing them end on. If this is the case, this is due to a lack of following directions when given and/or lack of Active Listening. You may also notice that if your child consistenly exhibits undesired behaviors, HCS Behaviors notifications will be sent home and recorded into their cummalitive file.
Please talk about being Ready to Learn and setting great leadership examples with your child! Thank you for partnering with me to help build student character and in making our class a fun and productive learning environmennt!
Speeding Tickets:
Mrs. Hakker and I will begin implementing Speeding Tickets in this upcoming week. We have both noticed many students rushing through work. Some are forgetting to writie their name, others are not using their best handwriting or are scribbling, instead of taking time to do their best.
The students and I have discussed how "Always Try Your Best" is our first classroom rule and that when we try our best, we are honoring the Lord with our work and we can be proud of our work.
Mrs. Hakker and I have have reminded students multiple times to not rush through work, but we are still seeing careless work. As a result, we will begin giving students Speeding Tickets and fining them Classroom Money for rushed work this upcoming week.
We will be attaching the speeding tickets to their work so you can see how they are doing as well.
Thank you for taking the time to encourage your child to always do their best!
Pumpkin Patch Field Trip:
We have scheduled our Pumpkin Patch field trip for Tuesday, October 20th. Pumpkin Patch field trip forms will be coming home this week. Please get these returned ASAP so we can get an approximate count of the number of people that will be joining us. Parents, if you are able to make it, we would love to have you join us.
We are going to the Bettencourt Family Farm at 15186 Flint Ave. in Hanford from about 9:45ish am to 11:45ish, and returning in time for lunch recess.
Please pack a sack lunch for your child, yourself, and any other family members that are coming (if you are able to make it).
There have been tables to sat at in the past, however, you may want to bring a blanket to sit in the grass.
Additionally, students will pick a pumpkin and will transform it at home into one of their favorite book characters (please no Halloween related content due to school policy).
Students need to have a physical copy of the book they will using to choose a character to transform their pumpkins into. After transforming their pumpkins, students will bring them to school to share with the class.
Please have your child choose the book and character they will use this week, read the book, and begin thinking about the materials they can use to transform their pumpkin into their favorite book character from the book they chose.
Students will bring their pumpkin character to school and share their character and book by presenting a short book report that they will complete at home.
Parent Teacher Conferences:
Parent-Teacher Conferences are coming up at the end of the this month. Mrs. Schmidt will be sending out a sign-up sheet in the next couple of weeks, please keep a look out for that.
