Middle school students with 7th and 8th grade art class experience may take intermediate courses after a review of their portfolio and approval by their high school art teacher.

AR ART FOUND 3d

AR ART FOUND CULT FORMS

In Cultural Art Forms, a project-based crafts class, you will learn about the history, culture, and beauty of crafts while creating artwork. Students try techniques like jewelry-making, macramé, calligraphy, and quilting, making both two-dimensional and three-dimensional pieces inspired by traditions from around the world. The class also helps you learn about and appreciate cultures from around the world.

AR ANIMATION ART I

In 3D Computer Animation 1, you will learn how to create animations using state-of-the-art computer software. Projects include designing 3D characters, building virtual environments, animating simple scenes, and storyboarding. This class introduces you to the basics of 3D animation while encouraging creativity and problem-solving.

FA DIG MED & ENT ART

AR COM ART GRAPH I

In Graphic Design, you will learn how to create digital art and designs using state-of-the-art computer software. Projects include designing logos, creating eye-catching posters, and developing layouts for advertisements. This class teaches you the basics of graphic design while exploring creativity and professional design techniques.

515400 - Dual Enrollment Art 121 (This semester long course is offered at Kecoughtan High School.)

DE ART 121 FOUND OF DRAWING

In Dual Enrollment Art 121, you develop basic drawing skills and an understanding of visual language through studio instruction/lecture. You will be introduced to concepts such as line, proportion, space, perspective, value and composition as applied to still life, landscape and figure. You will use drawing media such as pencil, charcoal and ink wash.

AR EXPRESSIVE DRAW & PAINT

In Expressive Drawing and Painting, you will build on the skills you've learned in the Fundamental Drawing and Painting class. Projects include creating bold abstract art, emotional self-portraits, and storytelling through detailed illustrations. This class helps you use your creativity to express ideas and emotions while exploring advanced techniques in drawing and painting. Successful completion of the Fundamental Drawing and Painting class is required.

AR ANIMATION ART II

In 3D Animation 2, you will build on the skills learned in the Beginning 3D Animation class to create more complex animations. Projects include designing detailed characters, creating advanced environments, adding special effects, and animating short stories. This class helps you develop your animation skills while learning professional techniques for more realistic and creative animations. Successful completion of intermediate 3D Computer Animation 1 course is the pre-requisite for this class.

AR PORTFOLIO PREP

In Portfolio Prep, you will focus on creating a collection of your best artwork to showcase your skills for AP Studio Art. (See the course below.) Projects include refining drawings and paintings, designing a cohesive theme for your portfolio, and preparing a digital version of your work. This class helps you prepare for college applications or art careers by developing a strong and professional portfolio. 

914900 - AP Studio Art - 2D, 3D, or Drawing Portfolio

AR AP ART STUDIO

In AP Studio Art, you will continue to create a high-level portfolio of artwork in preparation for the AP Exam to submit to the College Board. Projects include developing a concentration of artwork around a specific theme, creating a series of pieces, and refining techniques in drawing, painting, and other media. This class challenges you to push your creativity and technical abilities while preparing you for college admission and advanced studies in art.

AR AP ART HIST

In AP Art History, you will study the history of art from ancient times to the present. Projects include analyzing famous works of art, creating presentations on different art movements, and writing research papers on specific artists or periods. This class helps you develop a deeper understanding of art while preparing for the AP Art History Exam.
