Gimkit: A Real Life PBL Success Story!
When Josh Feinsilber started an independent study project at his PBL high school, his goal was to create a classroom quiz platform and to get at least ten teachers to use it with their students. In January of 2019, Gimkit had over 700,000 monthly users! Josh got the idea for Gimkit when he realized how sick he and his classmates were of Kahoot, so he set about solving the problem. - Schedule time in class each week for students to discuss, reflect, and work together on the project.
- Encourage students to seek a deeper understanding of the issues involved via research and observation.
- Plan a field trip for students to meet and talk with people helped by the community organization.
- Guide students to develop meaningful interview questions for their field trip.
- Incorporate student input throughout the project cycle — from identifying small ways to help the community organization each week, to scheduling a field trip.
