Fall tba: Eighth Grade Marching Band Days
8th grade students will be allowed to attend a football game with a high school band. They will be required to attend rehearsal prior to the game. More info will be sent out based on individual high schools participating.
October 1st: Beginning Band Sectionals 4-5:10 p.m.
October 2nd: 8th Grade Band students will attend a field trip to Christopher Newport University where they will tour campus, the Ferguson Center, music facilities and watch the marching band practice.
October 7th: HCS Steel Drum Ensemble Auditions 4:30-6 p.m. at Davis (one year of band required to audition)
November 7th: Honor Band Auditions here at Eaton after school
All students with a year of experience are required to audition. No fee is involved. Students stay after school and may call parents for pick-up when audition is complete. Event runs from 4-8:30p.m. and students may be done as early as 5 p.m.
Parent volunteers are needed for concessions and registration.
December 17th: Winter Band Concert at 6:30 p.m.
December 18th : Music Department Assembly
January 11th: All-District Auditions at Grafton HS Complex
Advanced players are expected to audition for this ensemble. If the student makes the band, there is a 3 day commitment, not long-term. There is a small fee to audition. Materials will come out to children in November.
January 28th: Eaton 5th Grade Open House 6 p.m.
Percussion Ensemble Members will perform at 6 p.m. (stay after school, move to the stage, rehearse, change clothes and perform)
Beginning Band Leaders run "Instrument Petting Zoo" at Band elective table in the lobby.
January 30-Feb. 1: All-District Band Event at Glouchester High School
Students that make the band will go to a host school Thursday evening, Friday during the school day and have a rehearsal and concert Saturday.
February 20-21: Honor Band and Chorus Event
Students that make the band will go to host school Thursday 5-8 p.m., Friday 10a.m.-8p.m. (Concert Friday evening)
February 28th (or March 6th early dismissal day if needed) : Assessment Camp with professional musicians 4-6:15 p.m. Assessment Band breaks up by instrument to work with professionals in their area for focused and detailed instruction after school.
March 9th: Performance for 6th grade during last block (3:25 p.m.)
This assembly is a mock performance for Assessment and also for Music in Our Schools Month.
This will be recorded for a practice assessment.
March 11-13: VBODA Concert Band Assessment (potential to change!)
We will be assigned a time on one of these days to perform on stage for judges at a host school. Advanced players are required to participate. This is our SOL test. No make up is allowed. Please plan ahead and do not schedule trips during these days. Do not schedule major dental work in the month leading up to this assessment.

This trip is a reward for assessment results. If the Band earns a Superior (equal to a Passed Advanced for SOL’s) then we will take the trip on Memorial Day. Rain date June 5th.
June tba: End of the Year Band Party at Sparetimes 2-4 p.m.
