Concert Night Details:

Students must be here ready to warm-up at 5:45 p.m.  Parents may not enter except for those that have agreed to serve as chaperones from 5:45-6:30 p.m.  Please remain outside prior to 6:15 p.m.  Doors will open at that time for seating.

Attire:

Beginning Band- Dress clothes of any color.  Dress code applies. No jeans, t-shirts or tennis shoes.

Concert Band- Dress black. Dress code applies. No jeans, t-shirts or tennis shoes.

Percussion Ensemble- same as the previous ensembles

*The first school day after the concert, students will be watching their concert, working on a post concert review and having pizza.  Please send $2 with your child that day to contribute to the pizza.  Thank you all!!  

*Busch Gardens permission forms will come out ​after the concert. ONLY students that have performed in the concerts and have not received OSS may attend the ​Busch Gardens trip with the Band, May 31st.  Tickets must be purchased prior to the trip day.

​We are VERY excited about the upcoming concert!  Come support your young musicians and celebrate their hard work!

Fall tba:  Eighth Grade Marching Band Days

8th grade students will be allowed to attend a football game with a high school band.  They will be required to attend rehearsal prior to the game.  More info will be sent out based on individual high schools participating.

October 1st:  Beginning Band Sectionals 4-5:10 p.m.

October 2nd:  8th Grade Band students will attend a field trip to Christopher Newport University where they will tour campus, the Ferguson Center, music facilities and watch the marching band practice. 

October 7th: HCS Steel Drum Ensemble Auditions 4:30-6 p.m. at Davis (one year of band required to audition)

November 7th: Honor Band Auditions here at Eaton after school

All students with a year of experience are required to audition.  No fee is involved. Students stay after school and may call parents for pick-up when audition is complete.  Event runs from 4-8:30p.m. and students may be done as early as 5 p.m.

Parent volunteers are needed for concessions and registration.

December 17th: Winter Band Concert at 6:30 p.m.

December 18th : Music Department Assembly

January 11th: All-District Auditions at Grafton HS Complex

Advanced players are expected to audition for this ensemble.  If the student makes the band, there is a 3 day commitment, not long-term.  There is a small fee to audition.  Materials will come out to children in November.

January 28th: Eaton 5th Grade Open House 6 p.m.

Percussion Ensemble Members will perform at 6 p.m. (stay after school, move to the stage, rehearse, change clothes and perform)

Beginning Band Leaders run "Instrument Petting Zoo" at Band elective table in the lobby.

January 30-Feb. 1:  All-District Band Event at Glouchester High School

Students that make the band will go to a host school Thursday evening, Friday during the school day and have a rehearsal and concert Saturday. 

February 20-21:  Honor Band and Chorus Event

Students that make the band will go to host school Thursday 5-8 p.m., Friday 10a.m.-8p.m.  (Concert Friday evening)

February 28th  (or March 6th early dismissal day if needed) : Assessment Camp with professional musicians  4-6:15 p.m.  Assessment Band breaks up by instrument to work with professionals in their area for focused and detailed instruction after school.

March 9th: Performance for 6th grade during last block (3:25 p.m.)

This assembly is a mock performance for Assessment and also for Music in Our Schools Month.

This will be recorded for a practice assessment.  

March 11-13: VBODA Concert Band Assessment (potential to change!)

We will be assigned a time on one of these days to perform on stage for judges at a host school.  Advanced players are required to participate.  This is our SOL test.  No make up is allowed.  Please plan ahead and do not schedule trips during these days.  Do not schedule major dental work in the month leading up to this assessment.

April 23rd: Solo and Ensemble Festival

Students select solos or duets to play for a judge.  Superior performances earn medals.

April 29th: Field trip to see the VA International Tattoo at the Norfolk Scope 

April tba : Elementary School performances

May 12th : Spring Band Concert 6:30 p.m.

Students must be in the cafeteria, dressed and ready to warm-up by 5:45 p.m.

May 25th: Spring Band Trip to Busch Gardens 9-5 p.m.

This trip is a reward for assessment results.  If the Band earns a Superior (equal to a Passed Advanced for SOL’s) then we will take the trip on Memorial Day.  Rain date June 5th.

June tba:  End of the Year Band Party at Sparetimes 2-4 p.m.

2017-18 EVENTS:

First 2 weeks of school:  Former members received contracts and instruments, beginners complete instrument trials

September 28th: HCS Steel Drum Ensemble Auditions 4:30-6 p.m. at Davis (one year of band required  to audition)

8th grade students zoned for KHS will be allowed to attend a football game on September 29th.  They will be required to attend rehearsal at KHS from 5:30-6:30 p.m. on Tuesday prior to the game.  More info will be sent out.

November 16th: Honor Band Auditions here at Eaton after school 4-9 p.m.

All students with a year of experience are required to audition.  No fee is involved.  Students that are new are encouraged to audition for experience. 40 out of the 84 spots available came from Eaton Middle School!  Let’s keep the tradition up!

December 12th: Winter Band Concert 6:30 p.m.

Students that make the band will go to Warhill HS Thursday evening, Friday during the school day and have a concert Saturday afternoon. 

February 19th: Spirit Night at Chick-fil-A : Band Fundraiser

Come out between 5 and 8 p.m. to the Coliseum Drive restaurant.  Bring receipts to Mrs. Farrell inside.  Drive-thru orders can't count.  Please join us and make a great showing to support the band.  The more sales, the higher the percentage that comes back to us!  If you have an event coming up, order platters that evening and 100% of party trays goes to the band!!!

February 22nd and 23rd: Honor Band Event at Kecoughtan HS

Students that make the band will ride a bus to KHS Thursday evening 5:30-8p.m. rehearsal (parent pick up at 8), Friday bus to KHS during the school day and have a concert Friday Evening at 7 p.m.

March 9- Assessment Camp 4-6 p.m.  TEST GRADE

March 19th- Stage performance for Eaton students at 3:30 p.m. and video recording.

March 27th: Elementary School Instrument Showcase: Mandatory for Assessment Band students

Advanced Players performing assessment show then they may leave.  Select students will work at tables to show instruments at "petting zoo".

April 17th:  Auditorium Dedication Ceremony for Mr. Knipple (core percussion performing)

April 26th: Solo and Ensemble Event- place TBD

May 15th: Spring Band Concert 6:30 p.m.
