Hampton City Schools uses the Understanding by Design framework to develop curriculum for teachers. Our goal is to create a comprehensive curriculum that provides a consistent experience across schools while also allowing for teacher autonomy and creativity. We do this through the use of deeper learning activities that help students make sense of the Standards of Learning and/or competencies through activities that are aligned, engaging, and can be used to inform future instruction.
Our curriculum is written by expert teachers and provides a robust learning plan so that teachers can spend less time looking for quality materials and more time focused on teaching and developing relationships with students.
