We are pleased to introduce Family Connection – a comprehensive website that you and your student can use to make plans about colleges, and careers. Family Connection is linked with Naviance, a service that we use in our office to track and analyze data about college and career plans, so it provides up-to-date information that’s specific to our school.
Family Connection allows your student to:
Get involved in the planning and advising process – Build a resume, complete online surveys, and manage timelines and deadlines for making decisions about colleges and careers
Research colleges – Compare GPA, standardized test scores, and other statistics to actual historical data from our school for students who have applied and been admitted in the past
Research careers – Research hundreds of careers and career clusters, and take career assessments
Create plans for the future – Create goals and to-dos, and complete tasks assigned by the school to better prepare your student for future college and career goals.
Family Connection also lets us share information with you and your student about upcoming meetings and events, local scholarship opportunities, and other resources for college and career information.
To visit our school’s Family Connection site, use an Internet browser to connect to the Bethel High School Naviance page.
When you visit the site for the first time, enter your personal registration code in the New User box and follow the on-screen instructions to create your own account. If you do not know your registration code, contact the counseling office for assistance.
Note: You and your student may receive different registration codes, and that each code can be used only once. Once you have your own account, you will sign in using the username and password you chose during the registration process.
Another helpful website is the Collegeboard site. This site is where one would go to register for the SAT which is one of 2 required standardized tests colleges use in their admissions process. This site also contains a comprehensive timeline from grade 9 through 12 detailing what students should be focused on throughout the year in preparation for attending college after high school.
The ACT is the other standardized test utilized by colleges and universities during the admissions process. Click on the ACT to be taken to that website where students register to take that test.

Now I Want To Apply
During your Senior Year, you will need to apply to your college choices online. Apply to at least 3 colleges as opposed to just one.
Be mindful of the application deadlines for each college you are applying to as those deadlines vary. Also be mindful if you are applying under "Early Decision" or "Early Action". Read carefully what those stipulations mean. Colleges may stipulate that if you are applying under "Early Action" you will be legally bound to attend that college if you are accepted. One would only apply to a college under this stipulation if you are definitely planning on attending that college upon acceptance.
You will need to add the colleges and universities to your Family Connection account so that your counselor can forward all necessary documentation as a part of the application process.
In January, you will need to apply for Financial Aid. Your parent's/guardian's tax information will be needed to complete the FAFSA application. Encourage them to have their taxes done as soon as they receive their W-2's from their place of employment. You will also list the colleges you are applying to on the FASA application. Once you are accepted into a college and then you, in turn, respond to that acceptance your intentions to attend the following school year, you will get Financial Aid information from that college.
While you are waiting to hear back from the colleges you applied to, apply for SCHOLARSHIPS! (This is FREE Money$)
