Free STEM learning opportunities for students in grades 8 - 12. Programs inspire students who possess technical and/or scientific interests and are motivated to learn more about STEM and explore career opportunities in STEM fields. Two programs offer Dual Enrollment college credits at NO CHARGE to students. Applications for programs are open until October 25, 2020
Virginia Space Coast Scholars (VSCS) - an interactive online STEM learning experience for 10th graders. Includes a 7 day residential summer academy at NASA facility. Application link
Virginia Aerospace Science and Technology Scholars (VASTS) - an interactive online STEM experience for 11th and 12th grade students. Includes a 7 day residential summer academy at NASA Langley Research Center. Focus is on human spaceflight. Program includes Dual Enrollment credit. Application link
Virginia Earth System Science Scholars (VESSS) - an interactive online STEM learning experience for 11th and 12th grade students, highlighted by a 7 day residential summer academy at NASA Langley Research Center with a focus on climate changes, weather and natural hazards. Program includes 5 free Dual Enrollment credits. Application link
Building Leaders for Advancing Science and Technology (BLAST)
A 3-day, immersive, on-campus summer experience for current 8th and 9th grade students. Faculty from ODU, Va Tech, UVA lead students in exciting activities and demonstrations for careers in STEM fields. More information: BLAST
Pathways Flight Academies Program
High school students in all grade levels can apply in the late fall for the summer opportunity. The event is a free two-week intensive, residential flight academy in the Summer of 2021. Students will undertake ground and flight training that can culminate in their first solo flight. Students interested in aviation can discover career opportunities in the field. Students MUST be 16 years of age to receive an FAA Medical Certificate and sign up for a FAA Student Pilot Certificate. More information: Pathways Flight Academies Program
