Director of Student Success and Career Integration
Kate Johnston is the Director of Student Success & Career Integration at Hamline University, where she oversees CASA, the Writing & Communication Center, and the Career Development Center. With over 20 years of experience in teaching and academic advising, Kate is passionate about student-centered education and helping students grow into meaningful careers through strengths-based advising and the liberal arts.
Before joining Hamline, Kate taught Spanish and served in academic leadership roles at Franklin College in Indiana. She holds degrees from Butler University, Indiana University, and the Universidad de Salamanca, with research interests in language learning, study away, and first-year experience.

Program Coordinator
Sky is an interdisciplinary artist and creative coordinator at Hamline’s Career Development Center. With a background in arts curation, environmental studies, and community-based programming, Sky is passionate about building inclusive, accessible spaces where all students can explore their paths with confidence.
They bring over five years of experience supporting creative and career development through hands-on events, resource design, and storytelling. Sky is always happy to meet with students, faculty, and staff—whether to collaborate on ideas or simply connect!

Internships Program Director/Piper to Professionals Program Director
Molly Isaacson (She/Her/Hers) serves as the Internships Program Director and the Pipers to Professionals Program Director in the Career Development Center. She assists undergraduate students with internship searches, applications, employer relations and oversees internship registration for academic and LEAP credits. Molly earned her Bachelors in Psychology and Dance from St. Cloud State University, and her Masters in I/O Psychology and Program Evaluation from the University of Wisconsin-Stout.
Molly loves traveling to new places with her family, hand-sewing textile art, and has seen every episode of South Park.

Senior Career Counselor
Joan Ostergren (She/Her/Hers) works part-time and has been with the Career Development Center since September of 1995. She earned a B.A. in Religion from Carleton College, and M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from the Counseling and Student Personnel Program at the University of Minnesota. Joan is a Licensed Psychologist and has also spent many years working in private practice. Joan works individually with students to assist them with career decisions and job search, and is involved with other CDC events. She also co-teaches Piper to Professional: Essential Skills for Career Success, which is a four credit course designed to help students transition into the job world.
Joan's favorite activities include: gardening, wilderness canoeing and backpacking, running and cooking. She is also an active volunteer with the YMCA and Carleton College.

Career Development Specialist
Lucas Vetsch is a student-centered higher education professional with over five years of experience in career development, academic coaching, and holistic advising. He supports students in navigating their educational and career paths with confidence, clarity, and purpose.
Lucas holds an M.S. in College Counseling and Student Development from St. Cloud State University and a B.A. in Psychology and Sociology from the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John’s University. A Gallup-Certified Strengths Coach, he is passionate about experiential learning, inclusion, and strengths-based student support.

Career Development Specialist
Jae Louwagie is a higher education professional whose goal is to join students in their journeys of personal and professional development. They have more than five years of experience in higher education, having held past roles in career development, academic advising, residential life, and equity and belonging. Jae aims to bring equity-minded approaches to supporting students in all capacities.
Jae holds an M.A. in Postsecondary Education: Student Affairs from the University of Northern Iowa and a B.A. in Religion from Wartburg College. Jae is passionate about music, playing 7 instruments to varying levels of proficiency, and loves spending time at home with their spouse and three cats.

Associate Director Alumni
and Employer Relations
John Stoltz is the Associate Director of Alumni and Employer Relations at Hamline University. In his role, John works to connect alumni and employers with Hamline in the efforts of creating more internship and job opportunities for past, current and future Hamline students.
John graduated from Hamline University with a BA in Political Science in 2018. While there, John was a member and captain of the Swimming & Diving team, and president of the college democrats. John also holds an MA in International Politics with an emphasis on critical geopolitics from Newcastle University. Outside of work, John loves to support Hamline Athletics, as well as his favorite teams the Green Bay Packers and the Minnesota Twins. He also spends much of his free time staying active by going to the gym, going on runs around the Twin Cities, and trying to get better at golf.
