What does it mean to be a SkillsUSA Member?
Hamilton High School SkillsUSA members are part of a nationwide movement to increase stronger employability skills. SkillsUSA gives members the opportunity to compete in contests within Applied Engineering and Technology Education, including; Engineering, Welding, Machining, Drafting, Cabinetry, Screen Printing, Video Production, and much much more!
SkillsUSA a great way to strengthen your skills, both hands-on and leadership. SkillsUSA members travel to various events around Wisconsin to expand their knowledge through industry tours and showcase their skills at local, state, and national competitions! As a newer chapter, Hamilton SkillsUSA is looking to grow and participate in more events, as well as promote Applied Engineering to the school. The past two years, Hamilton has sent Advertising Design and Screen Printing students to nationals!
Hamilton SkillsUSA is a student organization, where the students are in charge of the organization! The advisors assist the chapter, but the students get to decide what they want to work on, compete in, and learn. Being a member and a leader in the organization is GREAT college and career preparation for building communication and leadership skills!
What does a SkillsUSA member do?
Each member has the opportunity to prepare themselves for the world of work, through many different activities and competitions. Students can participate in:
Open shop worktime
District, state, and national contests
Industry tours
Applied Engineering promotional events
SkillsUSA members choose contests to compete in at district, state, and national conferences. In contests such as Screen Printing, participants arrive at the contest site and set up a screen properly to run a t-shirt job with multiple colors. In Architectural Drafting, students bring a computer from school and are given a limited amount of time to complete a set of drawings, judged by industry professionals. Other contests, such as Woodworking Display, have students bring and showcase a pre-built project.
The organization meets once a month as a large group to discuss upcoming events, vote on topics, and have socials as an organization. Members are asked to attend the monthly meetings, as they have a say in the organization.
Who is eligible to be a member?
An eligible member is ANYONE who is interested in the technology and engineering careers. To become considered a member the student must complete the membership sheet and pay the required dues.
