The Northwest Collegiate & Technical Academy Band Program is dedicated to developing skilled, independent musicians who embody discipline, dedication, and a sense of pride. With our motto, “Excellence is No Accident,” we strive for growth through hard work, teamwork, and artistry.

Our Ensembles

We offer a comprehensive music experience through multiple ensembles:

• Concert Band – Foundational skills for beginning musicians.
  
  

• Symphonic Band – Intermediate ensemble focusing on ensemble playing and musicianship.
  
  

• Wind Ensemble – Advanced musicians performing masterworks at the highest level.
  
  

• Marching Band – Combining music, movement, and school spirit for field and parade performances.
  
  

• Jazz Band – Exploring swing, blues, Latin, and contemporary styles through improvisation and ensemble performance.
  
  

• Pep Band – Bringing energy and spirit to athletic and community events.
  
  

Our Mission

The mission of the NCTA Band Program is to create functionally literate, independent musicians who continually exhibit the highest level of character as school citizens. This education will be conducted through traditional concert band classes and various extracurricular activities, including marching band, jazz band, small ensembles, solos, and auditions.

About the Director

Mr. Garner serves as the Director of Bands at Northwest Collegiate & Technical Academy. A proud graduate of Shaw University and an alumnus of Northwest Halifax High School, Mr. Garner brings both professional experience and a deep connection to the local community.

As a student, Mr. Garner was profoundly influenced by his band director and mentor, the late Mr. Teicher L. Patterson, who faithfully served as the Director of Bands at Northwest. Mr. Patterson’s passion for music, dedication to his students, and commitment to excellence left a lasting legacy. Mr. Garner strives to continue that tradition by instilling the same values of discipline, musicianship, and pride in today’s Viking band students.

He has experience teaching and directing a wide variety of ensembles, including concert, symphonic, marching, jazz, and pep bands. His goal is to create a band program that not only performs at the highest levels but also reflects the strength, pride, and spirit of Halifax County Schools.
