Community

Outings

An important part of attending Haley Street is having the opportunity to socialize with peers in the community. Each of our departments take part in outings throughout the year such as visits to the local coffee shops, going for ice cream, bowling at Strand Bowling Alley in Sydney Mines, checking out our local parks and beaches, and educational trips to The Fortress of Louisbourg and the Sydney Mines Fossil Museum. We are able to provide accessible transportation with our two accessible vans. We've also had the wonderful opportunity to provide fully accessible sailing experiences for many of our members through the Sail Able Program at the Northside Yacht Club.

Giving Back

As a non-profit organization, we rely on our community for support with fundraising, employment partnerships, and inclusion for the people we support. When we have the opportunity we like to give back to the community through food drives for local food banks, adopt-a-family, attending McHappy Day, Smile Cookie Day, partnerships and donations to Community Cares Youth Outreach to name a few.  Our thrift store has also been a discreet resource for community members who have had house fires, and other types of tragedy, or loss.

Community Employment

We have many members who have gained employment through work experience and community job placements through Haley Street's Employment Program. Some of those positions through the years include Sobeys North Sydney, Foodland Sydney Mines, McDonalds North Sydney, The Northside Community Pool, Home Hardware North Sydney, Escape Outdoors North Sydney, The Clansman Motel, Nora's New to You Sydney Mines, and Nora's 2 North Sydney.
