I am Melanie Maddox, a native of Tuscaloosa, AL. I am married to a wonderful diesel mechanic, Derrick Maddox, and we have been married one year longer than I have been teaching - 18 years! I enjoy reading, writing, playing music, and coaching young people in life. My ultimate goal one day is to own and operate an alternative school for children who struggle to succeed in the traditional school setting.

I am honored to have been the first ever Hale County Middle School Teacher of the Year (2018-2019), and I enjoy supporting my school, my co-workers, and my students in any way that I can. I have a Bachelor of Arts in English and a Master of Science in Leadership in Educational Administration.

I am a cancer survivor, and I have learned to face challenges head-on. My survivor experience causes me to challenge my students daily for excellence and greatness. All students do not learn in the same manner, but they do learn! I am called to find the manner in which my students learn and to take them to the next level.
