It is important to maintain correct emergency information in Genesis in the event a parent/guardian needs to be contacted for a student health issue.
Medication
The administration of medication in school is strictly regulated. Medication must be brought to the school nurse by the parent/guardian in its original container. A medication order from a healthcare provider is required to give medication in school. Paperwork for inhalers, EpiPens, and other medications to be given in school can be found in the Medication and Health Forms section of this website.
The Haddonfield School District physician has written orders to allow for students to receive cough drops, Tylenol and Motrin. If you do not want your child to receive any of these items, please notify your school nurse. Students are not permitted to keep cough drops or any other medication in the classroom.
A physical exam and a health history are required for children entering Central Elementary and Haddonfield Middle School for the first time. The physical exam must be completed within 365 days of the start of school. An updated physical exam and health history are also required for all 4th grade students. The required physical exam and health history paperwork can be found in the Mediation and Health Forms section of this website. If your child does not have a healthcare provider, we can arrange for the school physician to perform the required physical exam.
It can often be difficult to decide whether to keep your child home if they are not feeling well. Here are some general guidelines for when to keep your child home:
Fever above 100 degrees (students must be fever-free for 24 hours before returning to school, without the use of medication)
Vomiting or diarrhea (students may return 24 hours after the last episode)
Eye stuck closed with discharge or appears red and/or has drainage (must have doctor’s note stating that the child is not contagious to return)
Excessive nasal drainage or uncontrolled cough
Undiagnosed rash (check with your doctor for cause and when able to return)
Listlessness and lethargy without cause (i.e., child has had a full night’s sleep)
Less than 24 hours on an antibiotic for treatment of strep throat or other contagious illness
There are several health screenings that are done over the course of the school year. If you do not want these screenings completed, please send in a note to your school nurse at the beginning of the school year.
