About Us

Founded in the fall of 1979, the Houston Area Cooperative (formerly the Northwest Area Cooperative for G/T Training) was created by four visionary school districts—Spring Branch, Humble, Cy-Fair, and Aldine—to support gifted and talented (G/T) education across the region.

What began as a collaborative effort to share resources and meet funding needs has grown into a thriving network of educators dedicated to excellence in G/T instruction. Over the years, the Cooperative has expanded to include additional public and private schools, evolving to meet the changing needs of educators, counselors, administrators, and parents.

In 2025, the Cooperative became an official nonprofit organization, ensuring sustainable growth and independence for years to come. Today, our mission remains the same: to empower educators of gifted students through high-quality professional development, training, and shared resources that promote best practices in gifted education.
