How can an Informational Interview help YOU learn more about a career field?

Engaging in an Informational Interview is an Experiential Learning Opportunity (ELOP). Career Services can help YOU Explore, Discover and Connect to a variety of experiences which allows YOU to choose a career path that suits YOUR skills and talents best!

The purpose of an Informational Interview is not to land a job, but instead it is an informal conversation to gather valuable information. Now, YOU become the interviewer! This can be information about a career field, an industry, an organization, the particulars of a certain job’s function such as the day-to-day duties and responsibilities of a person in that position, or even seeking guidance on how to achieve your career goals from a person who works directly in that area of interest to you.

So, how do you get started?

  • First, determine your goal(s) for doing the informational interview. Dedicate one notebook to Career Services Opportunities. Write down these goals. This way you can clearly communicate why you want to connect with this person and what information you hope to obtain from the conversation.

  • Second, with whom do YOU want to interview? To find potential people with whom to interview, locate people who work in the career industry that interests YOU. Please log in to YOUR College Central Network (CCN) and search in HACC’s Career Mentor Network for professionals in YOUR field/major who have already volunteered their time to do Informational Interviews. Then research that person and the organization. If you need to activate YOUR free CCN account and/or want to learn how to use the Network, please let us know.

  • Third, draft YOUR Informational Interview email request. Use a sample email template to make your request. We are happy to assist YOU!

  • Fourth, since this is an interview you need some basic and then very specific interview questions. Career Services has developed Informational Interview Packets to assist you. Call 717-780-2433 or email CareerServices@hacc.edu. Check out HACC’s Career Services webpages: https://www.hacc.edu/Students/CareerServices/internships-and-experiential-learning-opportunities.cfm.

We look forward to hearing from you soon!

HACC Hawks Begin Spring 2022 Strong

The HACC Hawks men’s and women’s basketball programs have concluded for the winter 2021-22 season. Both teams worked hard and put up a tough team effort as they endured a competitive schedule this past winter. The men’s team finished with a 3-7 overall record. The men’s and women’s basketball programs both look to improve and continue to grow as a team next season. The men’s basketball team top scorers were Keith Davis, Anthony Alviani, Christian Bingaman, Elijah Thomas and Matthew Fravel. For the women’s team, Mary Nyagwoka, with 22 points overall, Laquandra Climmons with 22 points, and Daniela Moreta with 21 points, were the team’s top scorers this winter season. As the winter programs conclude, the spring 2022 season has begun.

The HACC Hawks Esports team has had an explosive start to the spring season as they have an eight-game win streak. The Hawks are dominating in the cyber arena in each match! Most recently, the HACC Hawks Rocket League team took on the Carl Sandburg College Chargers with their newest addition; Jordan "JLAB" Labriola. Jordan Labriola scored his first goal of the season in the very first match of the first pitch! The HACC Hawks dominated the first game with the Sandburg Chargers trailing behind, only able to score one goal. The Hawks capitalized offensively and took the win in game one; 6-1. In the second game, the Hawks came out firing on all cylinders as Brady "Voltres" Sartori and Benjamin "HelloLADY" Doutrich both scored a hat trick giving the team the advantage. The Hawks captured the victory in game two with an 8-0 win against the Chargers. In the third and final game, the HACC Hawks put the nail in the coffin by ending the match with a 6-3 victory. This win gave the HACC Hawks a 3-0 sweep against the Chargers. In other exciting news, the Hawks Esports Overwatch team's match March 4, 2022, against Trinity Valley Community College was chosen as the "Match of the Week" and was produced and casted by EsportsU which is partnered by the NJCAAe. This organization consists of professional Esports producers and casters that select NJCAAe matches to showcase.

W.A.R.E. is hiring student workers for Spring 2022. If you are interested, please contact Patty Lentz at palentz@hacc.edu.
