In consideration of the recent horrific events that have taken place in Israel, the Hebrew Academy has come together to show support and solidarity. For the last five minutes of the school day, students and teachers alike united in prayer. Rabbi Popack led the school by singing songs, saying Pesukim, reading chapters of Tehillim, and giving Tzedakah for Israel.
In addition, many classes wrote and illustrated letters to the Israeli soldiers in the IDF. In art class, the High School girls painted cards that were later sent directly to the soldiers. The Upper School students learned from multiple speakers on the topic of Israel from various angles.

This past Monday, we had a mock wedding in honor of the anniversary of the 7th Chabad Rebbe and Rebbetzin. In November of 1928, the 14th of Kislev 5689, the Rebbe's marriage took place to Rebbetzin Chaya Mushka. She was the daughter of the 6th Chabad Rebbe, Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak.
The wedding was held in Warsaw, Poland. Thousands of people attended the joyous celebration. However, the Rebbe’s parents unfortunately were not in attendance. Due to the harassment of the Soviet authorities for their efforts on behalf of Judaism, they were denied permission to travel to Warsaw.
Nevertheless, in their residence in the city of Yekaterinoslav, another wedding celebration was being held. Prevented by the Iron Curtain from attending the marriage of their firstborn son, they were nevertheless determined to rejoice in his joy.
The mock wedding was held with all of the Upper School students in attendance. This momentous event contained lots of fun activities such as the chupah, flower girls, dancing, and speeches. Every girl in the Upper School was given a role such as mother or father of the bride and groom, sisters and brothers of the bride and groom, party crashers, flower girls, and waiters.
Overall, it was an action-packed celebration of joy and laughter.

This year, the Hebrew Academy girls' High School is proud to present Brush Hour!
Rochie Lewkowicz and Chana Mushka Hershkovich introducing Brush Hour.
High school students getting involved!
Brush Hour is an organization which empowers Jewish teenagers to be proud and passionate about their Judaism and gives them an opportunity to share their passion with their peers. Brush Hour mainly focuses on Chabad teens teaching other, more secular teens about the mitzvot of Shabbos and Shabbos candles. This is done by bringing in teen to teen influence with the opportunity to create art and share their enthusiasm for their Jewish identity.
The leaders of Brush Hour this year are Rochi Lewkowicz and Chana Mushka Hershkovich. Over the next year, high schoolers will participate by going to CTeens around Orange County to teach the importance of Shabbos, bringing everyone closer to the mitzvah.
