HAAS offers after a Driver's Education after-school course for non-credit. It is open to all citizens with a valid Hawaii Instructional Permit who are at least 15 years and 6 months of age and under 19 years of age in accordance with Hawaii Revised Statutes. The course is taught by DOT and DOE licensed instructors. There are 2 parts to the Driver's Education after-school, non-credit course: Classroom and Behind-The-Wheel (BTW). Students who enroll in the course are required to take both the Classroom and BTW. Student enrollment in the DE Course at each high school must be given on an equal first come first serve basis to all eligible persons. Further, we do not tolerate from students or adults any verbal harassment, threats or abusive language or any conduct that creates an atmosphere of fear, distrust, and disrespect in any part of our program, as it compromises safety, which is at the forefront of our Driverʻs Ed program.

6–8 sessions per year (fall, winter, spring, summer, based on demand)
Important: Please complete the interest form completely to be added to the Driver's Education list.
You will receive an email about 1–2 weeks before the course start date with details about the Mandatory Parent/Student Night Meeting and Course Dates.
The first 26 students (Zoom) or 20–22 students (in-person) who respond correctly to that email will secure a seat.
Students are selected in the order they signed up.
Once the final sign-up email is sent, students have 24 hours to respond.
If you miss the deadline, we move to the next student, but note that the form is still open for you to sign-up until class is full.
Seats are filled in 24-hour intervals until the class is full.

Online Classes are conducted via Zoom.
Mandatory Parent/Student Night Meeting is held virtually on Zoom (link provided via email).
Final Exam is completed in person at HAAS Main Campus, Room C-2.
Behind the Wheel (BTW) drives are completed in small groups with soft COVID protocols in place.

Class Times:
In-person: 3:30–5:30 PM
Virtual (Zoom): 4:00–6:00 PM
Some weekend classes may be included (summer calendars may vary).
Driving Times:
Weekdays: 2:30/3:30 PM to 5:00/6:00 PM
Some weekend drives also scheduled.
Final driving groups and schedules are discussed during the course.

While we have interest form links available for all our current Driver Education course offerings, all students—regardless of which class they are interested in—MUST also register through the Hawaiʻi DOE Driver Education website.

100% attendance is mandatory for the classroom course. If you are not able to attend all the class dates as listed, do not apply for this course. Students who enroll but miss a class may be dropped and have to reapply for the waitlist. Extenuating circumstances may allow a student to continue the course and complete the missing class date in the next session.
