We were thrilled to be invited to a special screening of "Mast mahila Mandali", a wonderful hand-shot phone movie created by working class women living in Mumbai's Chembur. Their vibrant dreams, desires and aspirations find a tender release as they step up to tell their own stories with their own inimitable flair, inventing an intimate gaze backed by love and a reassuring aesthetic built on friendship. Mast Mahila Mandali doesnt believe in any hierarchies, nor does it pass any judgemnets. It freely explores the safe space which CORO has created over the years. Our Haan Hum participants were so inspired by the movie and participated gladly in the Q& A session, and shared their admiration and respect to the co-directors of the movie. Of course, our women wanted to make our own movie as well!! Maybe soon?
Our Director Neethu was invited to be a part of a powerful panel discussion on Power of Community in Arts, at Agatsu Foundation. She shared her views alongside inspiring voices like Natasha Sharma, from Govandi arts festival, The Steps Bandra and Dharavi Projects. The real issues of space, autonomy, equality and hope were discussed most of it aligning with our values, with the main one being the power of art. Everyone was very inspired by the impactful wprk done by each one of these projects.
