Healthy bodies make for healthy minds! Please ensure your child has at least 1 fruit or vegetable for their morning snack. They will be asked to eat this first and then may enjoy other healthy choices in their lunch such as cheese, crackers, yogurt, etc. Any "fun" foods can be part of their lunch, however, please limit the amount of chocolate, candy, chips, etc. as this does not facilitate learning. For more ideas and information about healthy eating and snack ideas, see the links below. I also try to encourage children to cut down on the amount of garbage we use as we learn about how to be good to our environment. Please try to use reusable containers as much as possible.

There are three recesses in your child's day (one of 15 minutes and two of 20 minutes). Please remember students go outside rain or shine as well as in colder weather. Please ensure your child is dressed appropriately.

For the most part, homework will consist of our Home Reading Program, Sight Words and Spelling/Dictée. The work that your child brings home should generally be work he/she can complete with little support. Simple guidance and supervision should be all you need to provide as support. More information on these can be found under the Sight Word & Dictée tab.
Occasionally, unfinished work might also be sent home.
According to Board Policies, students should not spend more than 10 minutes per grade-level on homework. This means that in grade 1, no more than 10 minutes. If your child needs to spend more time than this and it is causing difficulties, please let me know. Thank you for being an active partner in your child's education!
