My name is Caley! I am a student at George Washington University earning my BA in Theater. Welcome to my thesis: "Clowning Around Can Be Such A Drag"!
Check out my periodic blog updates tracking my progress!
Stay tuned for my final performance at the Corcoran School of Art and Design's annual 2026 Next Festival on April 23rd.
My thesis combines performance and costume design, the two main focuses of my studies at GW. My thesis brings together the artforms of Clownery and Drag to express and examine my own queer experience. Petunia, my clown drag persona, is based on the Idealus Herois moth, also known as the Clown Moth. She has a child-like sense of wonder and curiosity about the world around her, loves anything sparkly, and wants nothing more than to be a real human. From this persona, I have designed and constructed a costume to be on display at the NEXT Exhibition. Keep your eyes peeled at the NEXT Festival Extravaganza on April 23rd to see Petunia live in an improvisational piece amongst the festival attendees.
