11th Grade Info
There are two pathways that students can opt to complete: Engineering or Computer Science
11th grade Pathway classes:
Engineering Applications, AP Computer Science, or PGAS (Programming, Games, Apps and Society)
AP Physics 1, 2 or Honors Physics
Math: Precalculus and Advanced Algebra 2
FIRST SEMESTER: The 11th-grade RISE focus is to get students prepared to enter into their final phase of their pathway. Students are encouraged to participate in an internship, apprenticeship, or another college/career experience during their senior year in high school. In preparation for that, the 11th grade students will be finalizing their resumes and e-portfolios to assist them in researching, selecting, and securing one of those avenues. Soft skills will be the focus during the first semester of their junior year.
SECOND SEMESTER: Students will select and participate in a STEM "challenge" (national, regional, or local) that they have interest in. The students may choose to participate individually or in a team. Challenges will be selected at the end of the first semester and completed during the second semester.
Engineering
Students are working on completing their digital design in inventor for their skyscraper. Students are able to choose their own design for prototype 2 just as long as they stay within the constraints of a structure that is limited to 1.5m in height and a base that does not exceed the given limitations.
Our first design challenge—a hypothetical scenario in which students are the next-generation engineers challenged to come up with the next best design for a vehicle passenger compartment to keep the “passenger egg” safe during a front-end collision, with minimal vehicle damage.
Certifications - AP Physics 1 and 2
Students are independently working through completing their excel certification. This is an independent assignment and students work at their own pace in the academy class to complete the learning modules. They must complete the modules and the excel certification test by the end of March. Students are able to choose which days during the week they will work on excel modules or another class.
Instructors check in with them on a monthly basis to make sure they are making adequate progress to complete the modules.
