Hello, I’m Rachel Childs, I am a native of Greenwood, SC. I’ve lived here all my life. I even decided to attend college here too. I’m a two-time graduate from Lander University with a BS degree in Computer Science with a minor in Business Administration with emphasis in management and a BS degree in Special Education, Multicatagorical. I received a Master degree from Grand Canyon University in Curriculum and Instruction because
my ultimate goal is to become a Special Education consultant. There’s a big push with IDEA to move students who have been traditional special education students their entire academic career into the general education arena. I have found this to be very frustrating for the student and the general education teacher. As a consultant I would go into the general education classroom and assist the teacher with making the student's transition easier, hence giving the student a better chance of being successful and the teacher help with meeting the child’s needs. I believe with my special education background with IEP development and execution having an understanding of how curriculum is developed from beginning to end would be a great asset to me as a consultant.
Now, a little about me. I've been a foster parent to my niece whom I raised. Raising her has been one of my greatest joys and honor. She has 3 boys who are considered my grandchildren. I love teaching and working with young people because of their creativity when they want to be. I believe that teaching is a ministry and that every child can learn. Every child; however, does not learn the same way and not at the same speed so teaching methods must be adaptive and flexible to meet the child's needs for academic success.
