Using Google Chrome as your Browser - Tips and Tricks - Part 2
Let's take an in-depth look at the settings!
To get to the Settings, click on the 3 dots in the top right corner (on the same level as the omnibox (or where the URL of a website goes).
Once there, scroll down and click on SETTINGS.
1. People
Here is where you sign in to Chrome. Please see last week's Tech Tip for more information on that. Click HERE to access.
2. Appearance
You can select a 'theme' for your Google new tab page! This is really nice and makes your web experience more personalized! You also have options for a new tab page, showing your bookmarks bar, your font size, customizing fonts and your page zoom default.
3. Search Engine
Choose your default search engine. I always choose Google, but there are many other wonderful search engines out there. You can also manage your search engines here.
4. Default Browser
Choose if Chrome will be your default browser here!
5. On Startup
Choose your options when you open Chrome. Do you want certain sites to open? If so, choose 'open a specific page or set of pages' and choose the pages you want to open every time you open Chrome.
Click on ADVANCED.
Once you click on Advanced, you'll have even more options for settings.
6. Privacy and Security
You can click through these and take a look.
The VERY IMPORTANT SETTING here is the last one in this section - Clear Browsing Data.
This is where you can clear your history. However, please check. Once you click this button, there is a basic and advanced.
Basic is fine for most purposes.
Check the TIME RANGE right under Basic and Advanced. The default is last hour. I change my default to ALL TIME.
7. Passwords and forms
Here is where you can turn autofill on and off. You can also change your data here.
Managing passwords
This is something I never do! I always type in my passwords for everything for a couple of reasons. Feel free to have Google save your passwords if you wish.
If you have a password that you've saved and it's been changed, this is where you delete it!
8. Languages
If you choose, you can have a different language as a default here.
You can also turn off and on the spell check feature in Chrome.
9. Downloads
Many people overlook this section, but it's highly important.
You can choose WHERE your downloads automatically download to! Have you ever downloaded something and couldn't find it? Here's where you choose where to download on your computer!
10. Printing
Your print jobs should automatically go to your default printer and you don't need to worry about this setting.
You can also set up Google Cloud Print from here.
11. Accessibility
Add some accessibility features here from the Chrome Web Store
12. System
Check out your options here.
13. Reset
Here's another important setting!
Been playing with settings and want everything back to the original settings? Here's where you do this!
Lastly, HERE IS THE VIDEO for all the Chrome Settings!!!
