Parent TEAM Job Descriptions

  • Coach

    • You'll be leading the team. This does not mean you do all the work. Ideally, the kids are doing the work, and you are helping them stay on task. You don't need to know how to program or build to be a coach, but I'll admit it does help. But I'll happily show you the basics and I'll be there at times to support you. I'll always be ready to answer questions and give guidance.

  • Assistant Coach

    • Essentially the same as the coach, but you get a different name and it feels like you don't have quite as much responsibility, but you kind of do :)

  • Robot Programmer and builder

    • Let's say you don't have quite enough time on your hands to be a coach or assistant coach, but you have some background in technology. You can help the team program, design, and build their robot.

  • Photographer

    • Take pictures at team meetings and events. At meetings, make sure to document progress through pictures. This can be done for some meetings by arriving a 10 mins or so before the meeting wraps up and taking pictures of what the kids are doing and have done. For other meetings, you may need to stay to photograph activities. You can also arrange for someone already there to photograph, but you would be responsible for assuring the pictures were uploaded to shutterfly. At events, you need to take photos and video of the team as they go through their day.

  • Paperwork

    • You would be responsible for making sure paperwork for the team is distributed, signed, and returned. There isn't a ton, but it would help me out a lot of I had one parent to track down per team, rather than trying to reign in all 50. You'll also be responsible for taking the paperwork to the team event and getting the team registered (it is soooo not hard, but you have to stand in line and hand it in, and I don't want the coaches to have to do it)

  • Poster Board Helpers

    • This is you all my scrapbookers! Our kids need help designing 2 poster boards for presentation. In conjunction with the photographer who will hopefully have taken many pictures of the team, you will help the coaches and team put together a posterboard of their progress called the "Core Values Board" and another where they explain their project called the "challenge board". Hopefully the content of these boards will come from the kids, but you are there to help make it look beautiful, functional, and again, take some pressure off the coaches as you help the kids with this part of the project.

  • Facebook/Twitter

    • This can be the same person or separate people, but I'd love for our teams to have a social media presence. This would be weekly or biweekly posts documenting the progress of your team. We have a facebook page where I would give you rights to post, and the twitter...well, we'll work on that one :)

  • Snack and lunch parent

    • You would be responsible for organizing snacks for the team if this is something the team decides to do. It doesn't necessarily mean you have to buy the snacks or even be the one to distribute ever time, but you're the one organizing it. You'll also be responsible for organizing lunch for the team on competition day. This can mean organizing who brings what do the event, or organizing ordering pizza, or whatever the team decides to do.

  • Button Making

    • This isn't hard and takes a couple of hours of time later in the season. You cut out the circles and put them together using a button maker. I can show you how when the time comes. It's a little tedious, but a big help to the team. You can have helpers of almost all ages for this as well. You can also take the equipment home if we have some notice.

Parent PROGRAM Volunteers Descriptions

  • Facebook and Twitter maintenance

    • You'll keep an eye on our social media, make sure all teams are contributing, and bring to my attention anything that may need to be looked at.

  • Photography

    • You'll keep in touch with our team photographers to be sure they are getting pictures and maintain our Shutterfly site, taking care of creating albums, labeling, and anything else that's helpful picture wise.

  • Program Paperwork

    • You'll help me distribute and collect paperwork.

  • Cabinets and Closets

    • You can help keep things organized. After 8 teams and 50 kids use things, I'm finding that even with the best of intentions from the teams, a little maintenance can go a long way. I would love a hand with this. My guess is once a week, if you stick around for some of your child's practice, you can probably do whatever is necessary.

  • Materials Ordering

    • I need someone who likes to shop to track down good deals on our supplies when needed. Amazon tends to be our best friend here, but sometimes there's a better way. Plus, it is something else I can take off my plate if teams can come to you to put orders in. In the end, I'm still the one with the credit card and will need to place the final order, but if I have someone who can put the order together for me, it would be a big help.
