I think I know that shorter bits of information are easier for your brain to process because it gets less overwhelmed. Social media might cause this because we, as a society, have grown accustomed to short TikTok and Instagram reel-type videos, where information comes in small, quick segments. Many people get most of their information from social media or are at least influenced by it, meaning social media is a major factor contributing to how we see the world. That may be why younger people change their opinions more than older people, who tend to be more closed off. That may also be due to how brain function works in older people, making them less open. I think I know that, in general, people are less open now compared to previous years, which may be a contributing factor to mental health getting worse amongst the general population. I think the most open people are therapists because they work to change people's mindsets to be healthier. The most integral component of their job is understanding different viewpoints to which they have exposure.
I know that we have seen a decrease in attention span lengths. Samba Recovery states, "The average human attention span is only 8.25 seconds, which is less than the goldfish's 9-second attention span." It is a statistic I find true as I sit in my 80-minute classes- often bored and inattentive. I also know that to have a strong writing piece, you must have an engaging hook to reel an audience in. The sole purpose of that first sentence is to act as a technique to open your story enticingly (Master Class). I do not know much, but I am passionate about learning more.
