Teacher As Facilitator

Coordinators

The teacher's role in EMC is different from that of a traditional classroom. In the traditional classroom, the teacher controls the information, how it is disseminated, and which information is most important for the student to learn. EMC places control in the hands of the student.

Students can ask as many questions as they want in this class. The facilitator's job is to pose more questions, handle logistics, and guide them toward a self-determined goal. This could be a problem they want to solve, creative assessment to showcase their progress, or feedback on something they've done or are looking to do. In any case, it is the responsibility of the student to own their learning with guidance from the adult acting as a mentor.
