Assignments & Assessments
Self Designed Assignments:
SDA Assessment Rubric SDA Menu
At the end of each month, students are required to design their own assignments based on their progress. We call these "Public Displays of Understanding." Considerations are as follow:
Students are responsible for designing their own assignments. Coordinators provide the criteria and context in some occasions.
Students must show ample progress from one assignment to the next
Students must attempt to incorporate as many as the 5Cs as possible into each assignment
Students are responsible for showcasing their assignment in some way that gives them feedback from stakeholders
Students are responsible for setting attainable goals that match their assignments
Criteria For Success

5Cs
Content & Questions
Are you using evidence to build your SDA?
What questions are you addressing?
Self Assessment
Once the assignment has been completed, assessment on the part of the facilitator and student must occur. Because traditional schooling does not allow for the self-assessment process, guidance will be needed for the first few assessments. Considerations are as follow:
Self assessment occurs when students judge their work based on goals set by them with respect to the desired performance
Self assessment identifies further learning targets to improve and build upon the 5Cs
Students take feedback from stakeholders and reflect upon their work by writing (journals) and asking "What is achievement?" with respect to their goals.
To assist both students and coordinators Higher Order Thinking Questions (HOTQs) & Webb's Depth of Knowledge are often used in assessment.
