Reasons to do the FAFSA: Universities/ Community Colleges & Vocational Schools all require the FAFSA for all Pell Grants, Need & Merit based Scholarships, Work Study & Loans. Sunnyslope also relies on its students to fill out the FAFSA so we can keep our A+ rating!

The Class of 2026 was able to get just over 60% completetion on the FAFSA. Great job, with a 5% jump over the previous years completion numbers.
Sunnyslope participated in the state wide initiative 50% before the end of year competition. We had 48% by the end of December so we didnt make the cut off for reward funds. So close!
The seniors of Class of 2025 had a FAFSA completion percentage of 58.62%. Great work! Lets continue to improve. Remember that FAFSA funds can be used at university, junior college and trade schools. There is no reason to see if you qualify and put these extra funds to use for you!

Some students that didnt qualify for the financial need componet of the FAFSA, still later qualified for scholarships through their school just for competing the FAFSA application.

Grants are FREE MONEY awarded to qualifying students. The Pell Grant is the most common grant awarded by the FAFSA and is based on your EFC. The Pell, any state grants that may be offered, or even school grants, can be renewed every year by completing your FAFSA before the priority deadline.

There are two types of loans that students will be eligible for immediately upon completion of the FAFSA, which are: the Direct Subsidized Stafford Loan and the Direct Unsubsidized Stafford Loan. Be sure to read up on the differences between these two loans, and speak with your Financial Aid counselor to sign up or find out information on other private or institutional loan options.

Unlike grants or loans, the Federal Work Study program is awarded throughout the semester, through student employment. Students can work on campus and earn funds which can be put toward a student's educational expenses, while the student gains beneficial work experience. If interested, be sure to designate so while completing the FAFSA.
